Sadio Mane has made his thoughts clear on a possible summer swoop to bring Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly to Anfield this summer, and the feedback is positive.
29-year-old Koulibaly has been repeatedly linked with a transfer to the Premier League, with Liverpool often mentioned as a possible destination.
And international compatriot Mane has wasted no time in talking up the centre-back – who he also played alongside for French side Metz.
“Kalidou Koulibaly is an excellent defender, and one of the world’s best in his position.” said the forward.
“I would be very happy to play alongside him at club level, as I have known him for years.
“We first got to know one another at Metz before meeting up once more in the Senegal national team. No club could refuse the chance to have Koulibaly in their squad.
“In any event, it would be a pleasure for me to play for Liverpool together with him. He would be more than welcome here.”
Some fans have reacted positively to the possibility of the defender plying his trade at Anfield next season:
I would love if we got him in and traded Lovren plus cash. Then we would never fear a VVD injury

LFC must sign him to make our defence unbeatable.

With the ‘will he stay or will he go’ drama of Dejan Lovren’s possible summer exit, there may or may not be the need for another option at centre back. There is youngster Sepp van den Berg waiting in the wings but he doesn’t have much gametime under his belt and it is unlikely he will see regular action for another year or two yet. Even should Lovren end up departing there is the matter of Koulibaly’s price tag to consider as well.
