Klopp worked hard to bring Mbappe to Anfield

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made a big move to bring Kylian Mbappe to Anfield.

The France international was a member of the AS Monaco squad that won the Ligue 1 title in the 2016/17 before leaving to join rivals Paris Saint Germain last year.

But Klopp was determined to try and pull off a coup by bringing the teenager to Merseyside and the young forward was reportedly ‘charmed by the eloquence and enthusiasm’, according to L’Equipe.

The report claims that the German boss spent ‘several hours’ trying to persuade Mbappe that his future was best served by moving to Anfield to play under him.

Liverpool were said to be prepared to make him one of the highest paid players in the squad, alongside Brazil international Philippe Coutinho, such was the desire to get a move completed.

But things hit a stumbling block that was impassable when the subject of a transfer fee came up when Liverpool could not stump up an offer in excess of £150m to snap him up.

Paris Saint Germain initially brokered a season long loan deal to take Mbappe to the Parc des Princes before completing a permanent transfer this year as part of the agreement.

Klopp will get a close look at the young superstar at least twice this season as his Liverpool side take on the Frenchman and PSG in the Champions League.
