Karius lost backing from team-mates
Liverpool allowed Loris Karius to leave the club after he lost the backing of his team-mates.
That is the claim being made in an article by The Mirror, in which they report that the goalkeeper lost the trust of the squad after a post he put on his Instagram account.
The German put up a professionally shot video of himself working out and eating ice-cream in the California sunshine before preseason training had begun back on Merseyside.
This is said to have disillusioned other players in the squad, according to Dominic King in the Daily Mail, with others feeling that he should have been focusing on knuckling down ahead of the new campaign.
“Slowly but surely, his actions led to trust being eroded and, for some, the video he posted to Instagram in July of him exercising and eating ice cream in California was the final straw.” he reported.
“That was a time for self-awareness, to keep his head down and work but he continued to make himself a story.” he added.
Karius lost much of the faith he had developed with some improved performances in the second half of last season with two woeful errors in the Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid.
He was subsequently sent on loan to Turkish club Besiktas for two seasons, with a view to a permanent deal, last month following the signing of Alisson Becker from AS Roma in what was a world record deal at the time.
