Klopp pleased to see Mane agree new deal

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that Sadio Mane’s new deal makes “a statement”.

The Senegal international has agreed a new long-term contract with the club that he will see him stay at Anfield until at least the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

There had been speculation brewing that the former Southampton man was stalling over putting pen to paper on an extension with interest coming in his services from other clubs.

But he has dismissed that notion by pledging the next four and a half years of his career to Liverpool and his manager is pleased to see the deal completed.

“It shows a bit of change in the last few years.” Klopp said.

“To extend a contract is more than a signing, it is a statement.” he added.

Mane has become an integral part of the German’s side since arriving at the club back in the Summer of 2016, when Liverpool beat off competition from rivals to land the African.

He scored in the Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid last season and has already stated his ambition to go one better this year.
