Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing Bolton’s Mark Davies in a £6million swoop after missing out on Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Iceland midfielder Sigurdsson, who starred for Rodgers at Swansea last season on loan from Hoffenheim, is set to complete an £8million move to Tottenham next week, once Andre Villas-Boas is confirmed as their new manager.

But Rodgers is also a big fan of Davies and previously considered signing him for Swansea.

The attacking midfielder, 24, shone last term, scoring four goals for a Wanderers side that ended up being relegated to the Championship.

He was decent for Bolton, but I don't see where he would fit into our side.

I don't think he is any better than Adam, Henderson or shelvey.

I really rate Mark Davies and would prefer him to Charlie Adam or Jay Spearing. Think he was one of Bolton's better players.

On the other hand, I don't think he's the answer to our problems, and Henderson and Shelvey show much more potential.

Yes I don't think he is the answer to our problems. Decent enough player like but is no better than a mid table team. We will be aiming  much higher than that this season!

I don't think he is a bad player, but I don't think he is good enough or that we need him.

I slated Henderson plenty when he was playing on the right. It wasn't his fault though that Kenny persisted with putting him out of position for three quarters of the season. Once he moved him into the middle, he was a much better player.

Harsh on Henderson, because I think he'll improve and turn out to be a brilliant little player.

Let's not forget, Davies is 3 years older than Henderson, so his prime is coming very soon.

He's one that could be a surprise in the future for a better club, but really a wild card.

He only has five goals in over eighty appearances for Bolton.

Not encouraging.

Liverpool is set to go after Bolton Wanderers’ center midfielder Mark Davies, but Brendan Rodgers will have to add more than just Davies to cure the Reds’ midfield woes.

According to the Daily Mail, the new Liverpool boss has missed out on top-choice Gylfi Sigurdsson, who will sign with Tottenham for £8 million. Now, Mirror Football is reporting that Rodgers is trying to take Davies away from Bolton for £6 million.

Davies is a versatile central midfielder who can play just behind the strikers or further back down the pitch. He also featured on the wing for Bolton at times.

But Liverpool’s problems in the midfield are not on the wing or with the holding midfielders. The team needs a player who can sit behind the strikers and threaten defenses and as a scorer or a distributor.

The Reds relied on Jordan Henderson in this role last year, and he contributed just two goals and one assist in 37 English Premier League appearances.

Sigurdsson was the ideal candidate to fill the void, as he notched seven goals and three assists in just 18 EPL matches for Swansea.

Davies, in contrast, recorded just four goals and no assists in his 35 league games at Bolton this past season.

Bolton had plenty of problems this year, which led to its relegation, and Davies’ lack of production is not entirely his own fault. But at 24 years old, he cannot be considered a prospect anymore. He is close to the age where he should be having the most productive seasons of his career.

Davies is a talented player who could contribute solid minutes in the midfield. However, it would be entirely unsurprising if he were every bit as ineffective as Henderson.

Davies is not an expensive transfer, so Rodgers would be smart to sign him and add depth to the midfield. Still, the Rodgers has more work to do in order to solve the problems that led to an eighth-place finish in the Premiers

Bleacher Report have weighed in with their 'insight' on the player. Nicho will be pleased to hear their views!

Davies would add depth to the squad, but is it actually an improvement on Adam, Spearing or Henderson? I think not.
