A host of Premier League clubs are ready to do battle for the signature of Portugal midfielder Joao Moutinho.

Prospective new Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas wants the 25-year-old to become his first White Hart Lane signing by replacing the outgoing Luka Modric.

But Villas-Boas, who signed Moutinho for Porto back in 2010, will have to convince the player to chose Spurs over Champions League trio Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Liverpool are also interested in the former Sporting Lisbon man, who impressed at Euro 2012 before Portugal's semi-final elimination at the hands of Spain.

Moutinho has a £40million buy-out clause in his contract, and Porto are thought to want around £32m for their star man.

Cracking player. Would like to see us sign him

Expensive and a lot of competition for him though...

Agreed. He had a very good Euro 2012 and will be on a lot of club's shopping lists.

Can't see us splashing us most of our budget on him nor him wanting to turn down Champions League football to allow us to do so.

He would be a big upgrade on Joe Allen in Rodgers' team and style of play from last season.

Shame.

Like everyone said, cracking player but would he really choose us over City, United and Chelsea with all they have to offer? i doubt it.

Now THIS would be a signing. Only a few years ago, he was linked with Everton for less than £20mil.

Of course, he has impressed on the big stage since. We'd be extremely lucky to get him.

If we go with the right offer, why not...

A - He will want Champions League football - which other clubs will offer
B - Other clubs have more money than us
C - We just came eighth in the Premiership

Do you want it any clearer?

Why we sold the club to someone that doesn't have money?

City got taken over by a billionaire arab who throws money around on the club without worrying about profit and loss. It is just a plaything to him.

We have been taken over by a business.

Do you see the difference?

Yeah I know that and I know there were a lot of Arab billionaires wanting to take us over and what we did... sold the club to some americans who don't spend money to improve the squad. We sold our best players to buy some players.

Selling the club to FSG might well be the most important thing that has ever happened to the club. The fact that you're questioning it is utterly hilarious. We were hours away from administration!
