Liverpool have been linked with French keeper Hugo Lloris after rumours that AC Milan are plotting a swoop for Pepe Reina.

Milan were last week linked with the Spanish keeper, who arrived at Anfield in 2005 from Villarreal, as they look to sign a top keeper to replace the aging Christian Abbiati.

Reina, 29, is settled on Merseyside but did say in a recent interview that Liverpool were, under the previous Tom Hicks and George Gillett ownership, not the club that he and Fernando Torres had joined.

That interview may have alerted Milan to the possibility of getting Reina and hastened contingency plans from within the club to sound out other international-class keepers.

Reina is currently away at Euro 2012 with Spain and has not yet met new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

The link to Lloris has come from French source 10 Sport, who claim he is Liverpool's top choice should Reina quit Anfield.

The 25-year-old France international is also thought to be settled at Olympique Lyon, although his chairman Jean-Michel Aaulas said before Euro 2012 that the keeper had told him he could be tempted by an offer from a "great European club".

I always thought he would end up at Arsenal.

Too good for backup, and Pepe's going nowhere

Liverpool are exploring the possibility of signing France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as Pepe Reina continues to interest AC Milan, according to reports in France.

Reina, who has been at Liverpool since 2005, is on the radar of AC Milan, who are looking to replace the ageing Christian Abbiati.

New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to be scouting potential replacements in the instance that the Spaniard leaves for the San Siro, and French newspaper Le 10 Sport believe he has his sights on Lloris.

Lloris captained France during their disappointing Euro 2012 campaign, and is rated as one of the most consistent goalkeepers in Europe.
The 25-year-old, who has been linked with moves to Tottenham and Manchester United in recent years, has racked up 171 appearances for Lyon since moving from Nice in 2008.

I wouldn't be sad to see him replace Reina IF Pepe goes.

His kids certainly are and that is a big plus factor in him staying.

If we could replace Reina with Lloris without losing any money in the process, given Reina's form over the past couple of season, we'd be doing very well.

All around the fields, of Anfield road,
Where once we watched the King Kenny play and could he play!
Stevie Heighway on the wing, we had dreams and songs to sing,
Of the Glory round the fields of Anfield Road.

I'd be very disappointed if we only broke even on the deal. Pepe hasn't been up to his usual high standards of late, but even in bad form he is better than the majority of keepers out there. His stock is high, and if we were to sell I'd expect to be able to afford Lloris & have change left over.

Lloris is much younger though. I haven't seen much of him but he won Ligue 1 GK of the season this season...

I'd be dissapointed if reina was to be sold for less than £15 million I think he's worth more like £20 mill. If he did want to leave I suppose this guy could be a worthy replacment. But I would prefer a keeper with premier league experience. Like vorm, al habasi or krul.

If Reina were to go, Lloris would be a very good replacement.

Vorm would be a top pick for me too.

I do not want Pepe to leave under any circumstance, regardless of the fee we could receive. He is one of only a few world class players we have at the club and selling him would be a retrograde step.

Yes definately reina is top draw. You don't get many reliable keepers like him. I'd be gutted if he left.

I don't want to see Reina leave, but if he decided he'd had enough then Lloris would be a good buy.
