Simple enough question, Who do we need to buy in the next transfer window?

Judging by the last two summer windows we have had a spending of 39 million and 39.8 million.

Minus 20.5 and 22.2

So, assuming we were to sell no one in the next transfer window, and we have 17 million + 12 for Keane to spend, who do we buy?

Do we buy a right winger, a quality fullback, a new striker, who? Obviously for around 30 million pounds, I think we can afford to buy two new quality additions to the squad, or just one really good player

In my opinion, Torres probably needs to play as a lone striker, I don't think he really ever performed sensationally with Keane, Crouch, Kuyt even Villa for Spain. So in my opinion we need to sign a quality right-winger to add some creativity and someone to scare defenders, can score goals, get assists, and will fit into the squad just like Riera did. Hopefully we can get David Silva, he'd be perfect for us I think.

But I'm interested in hearing who you guys realistically think we should sign, or need to sign?

All around the fields, of Anfield road,
Where once we watched the King Kenny play and could he play!
Stevie Heighway on the wing, we had dreams and songs to sing,
Of the Glory round the fields of Anfield Road.

Now with the loss of keane, i think we need a forward. Examples of strikers affordable - Zaki, Santa Cruz maybe , plus theres many more.
but i think we need a forward and Rafa should bring one in .

30 mil for Zaki or Santa Cruz. Both overhyped. Surely Keane and Villa has proven Torres works best as a lone striker with Gerrard tucked behind him

I agree about Torres playing best as a lone striker, the only problem is finding backup that's good enough to step in when needed but happy to let Torres get most of the games. A right winger has to be the priority but I think we should make sure whoever we buy can also play up front. I wouldn't mind seeing us back in for Simao if there's any chance of getting him off Atletico.

I want us to sign Aaron Lennon. I wanted us to sign him last summer, and I wanted us to sign him in January and it never happened, and I'll want us to sign him this summner. He's a quality right winger, young, english and so much better than Pennant. I think we'll need another striker as well, not to play with Torres but to be backup incase he gets injured. It's hard to find a good enough striker to backup Torres, who will be patient enough to warm the bench for a lot of games.

A right winger again!!

Kuyt's doing an a good job but its not his natural position. He lacks flair and abilty to play the role so someone more suited is a must. The likes of Silva and Valencia would be some of the choices I'd make. Valencia would be the cheaper option out of the 2 but theres lots of talk of a possible move to UTD or Madrid in the summer. Simao is a good shout as BBC has mentioned. I will admit i didnt think to much of him when he came up against us playing for Benfica. He scored a fantastic goal but overall he didnt impress me. Since his move to Atletico Madrid hes shone leaving me to change my opinion on him.

Aaron Lennon is another shout, reports in the papers led us to believe Rafa wanted him as part of the Keane back to Spurs deal. Ive seen him play a few times this season and hes certainly looked better this term. Theres still doubts over his final ball tho and for some that might be to much of a problem. We're more than likely going to see the back of one poor winger in Pennant, some might not want to see him replaced with another.

torres is better as a lone striker.

i think we need a RW preferablly silva but i wouldnt be complaining if we got lennon or valencia.
Getting another striker is hard because they need to be quality but with torres being better alone IMO they need to start on the bench and generally any player good enough for liverpool is a player that would want to be playing week in week out

Your exactly right BigDonga, are striker situation is quite paradoxical. Hopefully, we will just by a good enough striker but a quality winger.

But then what happens if Torres goes down with a bad injury? Kuyt and N'Gog?

I love Kuyt, but he isn't Torres quality, and N'Gog is just a kid. We need a quality replacement for Keane anyway.

I agree about David Silva as well.

i think that buying villa would be a mistake.
30mil on him to be a striker with torres would effect torres' game and i dont think villa would want to be back up on the bench for torres either.
30mil would be better spent on a RW and maybe a good 10mil or so striker as back up if there is one for the price ( with prices like 100mil for kaka my bearing are a little off price wise)

I'm guessing you mean, Quality Winger?

If so, I guess it would makes sense to buy a new striker, who is decent enough, and a world class or thereabouts winger.

people say we need a winger bla bla.
we dont.

We need a striker!
Lay the pressure off Torres, we need someone world class who can put the ball in the net whenever torres or gerrard cant.

where have we struggled this season? In front of goal! yes, a new right winger would be great. but first we need a world class striker to go with torres. united have 4! rooney, berbs, teves...and rondalo (yes ano hes a winger, but hes practicaly a striker)

David Villa would be ideal. He'll cost alot of money, but thats what you have to pay to get the best.
frankly it wont hapen.

hope

I don't think we have or will have the funds to ever take David Villa from Valencia, to be honest it would surprise me to see him leave at all. Hes shown great loyalty towards them, even knowing that his sale could greatly lower Valencia's huge debts.

We need a striker? Torres cannot play as well with a striker partner so we sell Torres?

Have you ever watched a highlights show thinking, "hmmm we get pretty close with our opportunities but we don't seem to have created as many as United, Chelsea and Arsenal"

I know I do.

We don't lack in front of goal we lack in the area just before, for all the possession we get we don't create nearly enough chances.
