Left-back Andrea Dossena signed for Liverpool from Serie A side Udinese in July 2008 as a replacement for the Roma bound John Arne Riise, becoming the first Italian international player in the club’s history.
Dossena’s career began with Hellas Verona in northern Italy, coming through the youth setup before spending four seasons in the senior squad.
His big chance came when Udinese signed him in 2005, and after some impressive displays he began to attract the attention of Europe’s top clubs.
Rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool began circulating towards the end of the 07/08 season, and before long his move to Anfield had been confirmed.
On signing Dossena said:
"Liverpool are a great team and it is great to be linked to such a famous club.
"I want to play Champions League football. The Reds have already won it and they often get to the big games. In England, they are on the same level as Manchester United."
