Except in odd flashes El Rento has not been a brilliant player since 08/09 season.

Unfortunately, I have to agree.  While I've read some people claiming that Torres was dogging it here because he no longer wanted to be at LFC, that ignores his lackluster performance at the WC.  Had he been a star there, while being mediocre here, it might give credence to the notion that his main issue was wanting out here.  But that was most certainly not the case, as evidenced by him being left off the starting XI in the semifinal, then apparently going to del Bosque and pleading in vain to be restored for the final.

In a way, I was thinking that such a humiliation at the hands of his national team's manager might have spurred Torres on and made this season a chance for redemption.  But such was clearly not to be -- aside from a few flashes of brilliance, he has looked rather average all year long.  While the move to Chel$ki might reinvigorate him for a bit, I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that he may well have hit an early peak, but now be on the downslope of his career.

Excellent shout!
His performance was average at best in the World Cup!  Precisely why he stayed here in my opinion, 'coz no big money offers surfaced for him during the summer!

Him & David Villa for Spain, are like Gerrard & Lampard for England - they just can't seem to cut it together!!

Worse than Owen!

The way Owen left was bad, but it was more expected because he wouldn't sign a new contract...

El Rento® was a real shock, he had me convinced that he got what the club was all about, and was one of us... My opinion of him now is so low, that i think  the reason he left the transfer request so late was hoping we wouldn't get the chance to reinvest his transfer fee, and maybe against the odds push the Rent boys for a CL place

uuuhh
id say that he stayed here because we had no other striker to replace him...
and hodgeson had G&H as owners so even if we bought a replacement he probably wouldve cost about 5mil at most.

it would have been suicide to sell him then.

I will remember him for turning his back on the dynasty that is Liverpool FC. I don't care what he's done for us, he's just gotten personal records and he hasnt won a game for us individually for a very long time.

We wouldn't want players backs to get cold though.

All around the fields, of Anfield road,
Where once we watched the King Kenny play and could he play!
Stevie Heighway on the wing, we had dreams and songs to sing,

i will remember him for being part of a team that never fullfilled its massive potential. lets be fair torres is part of the old rafa team thats slowly dismantled. the alonso, masch, babel, hyypia, garcia, risse etc with rafa in charge. that team should have acheived so much more and should be able to look back and think of torres and the rest as the team that won back the league. im afraid torres just reminds me of what could have been.

the team is unrecognisable to the old one and we have to try again. i dont hate torres just think hes a twat and if hed stayed he could have won womething with us.

on another quick note is anyone surprised we allowed him to go? utd kept rooney, city kept tevez, why didnt we just refuse the transfer? anyway its all ifs and buts. the two weve got now combined are better than 1 torres so doesnt matter now.

It was the price  (£50 million) ,,,everyone has a price and also if they say they want to leave, then for Liverpool that means the back door  and i do agree with you,,we did get the better deal in the end

Adios Fernando ...and here is a dedication for you
its a song by Bob Dylan.

You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down
You just stood there grinning

You got a lotta nerve
To say you got a helping hand to lend
You just want to be on
The side that’s winning

You say I let you down
You know it’s not like that
If you’re so hurt
Why then don’t you show it

You say you lost your faith
But that’s not where it’s at
You had no faith to lose
And you know it

Do you take me for such a fool
To think I’d make contact
With the one who tries to hide
What he don’t know to begin with

You see me on the street
You always act surprised
You say, “How are you?” “Good luck”
But you don’t mean it

When you know as well as me
You’d rather see me paralyzed
Why don’t you just come out once
And scream it

And now I know you’re dissatisfied
With your position and your place
Don’t you understand
It’s not my problem

I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You’d know what a drag it is
To see you

Born a red, raised a red, will die a red man
....all around the fields of anfield road..where once we watch the King Kenny play and now that the KING is back, we can once again dream about the glory of the Anfield road.

It's a sad day for LFC. To lose a player to another English club is awful, but to another club with such a proud and successful history is devastating. I can honestly say that there will be no malice from me. Thank you
