Torres Injury latest

By Ste_Macca, Mon 01/09/08 at 02:48

Fernando Torres will have a scan on Monday to determine the extent of the hamstring injury he sustained at Villa Park.
The Spanish striker was forced to limp out of Sunday's goalless stalemate and is now waiting to discover how long he will be on the sidelines for.

"We don't know how long Torres will be out for yet," said manager Rafael Benitez. "We'll have to wait for the results of the scan on Monday.

"It could be he is out for seven to ten days, but until he has the scan we won't know."

I just hope he gets better in time for the Man U game. Please god let him be fit for the game.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but torres is out for two or three weeks

Torres faces three-week lay-off

Torres had to be substituted in the first-half at Aston Villa

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is expected to be out for two to three weeks with a hamstring tear.

Torres, 24, limped off against Aston Villa on Sunday and has withdrawn from Spain's squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Armenia.

He is a major doubt for Liverpool's Premier League home match against Manchester United on 13 September.

But Liverpool's game against Marseille in the Champions League three days later is a more realistic target.

"A scan this afternoon has confirmed a hamstring tear in Fernando's right leg," said a club spokesman.

"He is expected to be out for between two and three weeks."

Torres was a revelation in his first year at Liverpool last season, scoring 33 goals after signing from Atletico Madrid for ?26.5m.

The Euro 2008 winner has already made a significant contribution this term, scoring the winner in Liverpool's 1-0 victory at Sunderland.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is also injured at present, though manager Rafa Benitez is optimistic both players will not be out for too long.

"That should be the same as Gerrard. Of course it hurts us to lose a player of Torres quality, but we have to wait," he said, prior to Monday's announcement.

If we are going to progress in this league we do need a team that can adapt to these situations, Sure it is bad news and we will miss Torres and Gerrard but we need to be strong and confident regardless.

Imo the mancs are not on form either a winning underdog display for us would be just what the doctor ordered.

Bad news indeed, but yeah your right Mental, we cant rely on just two players to keep us going! Need to stick together as a team and just do our very best! Im sure we can play a whole lot better than we have been!
