Sterling called up to England squad

Liverpool youngster Raheem Sterling has been called up to the senior England squad.
With Theo Walcott ruled out of Tuesday night’s Wembley clash against Ukraine due to illness, England manager Roy Hodgson has added three players to the squad - also calling up Tottenham’s Jake Livermore and Southampton’s Adam Lallana.
Sterling, Livermore and Lallana will now be given an opportunity to gain some valuable experience with the senior squad, according to Roy Hodgson.
"It was a good opportunity to invite some young players to come in and be part of the atmosphere," said the England manager.
"We still have enough good players to be able to deal with the game, but it’s always good when you have the chance to invite these players to come in and see how things are."
Hodgson said of Walcott: "Theo has picked up some sort of virus. He was quite violently ill last night.
"Daniel trained yesterday with stomach cramps but today woke up with the same stomach cramps, and the doctor advised us to keep him out of training and see how things are. The doctor is quite confident he will be okay, though.
"I can only hope nothing is going round the squad. That was why we were quite keen to get Theo home as soon as possible and also keep Daniel away from the squad.
"I have to hope it’s just an isolated case with the two players."

I might be in the minority here, but I think Sterling is the sort of player that will shine by being thrust into the spotlight.
I hope he gets a decent amount of time on the pitch
Agreed - compared to Downing its no wonder he has been called up, if you can kick a ball and play lw you would get in
On merit if not early for me

I doubt he will get on, no matter how s**t England are.

They were shite and he didn't get on. A gold star and merit for accurate predictions

good. As long as you agree, we're cool. (-;@Taylor People haven't written him off quilkcy. It's been a downturn over the past few seasons (not just after his knee surgery). He needs support and doesn't have it. Until he does, he'll always be semi-injured or exhausted.-As for the hasn't played in months then is expected to shine on the biggest stage , etc. I don't think anyone disputes that. RVP is in that position too (and hasn't been scoring), though tells the media he's ready and fresh , but that could also be from all the douche
Having faith he recovers would be uesacensnry if he was allowed to heal properly (i.e. bring in some component help up top). Then it could happen naturally, not through some omnipresent being. LFC needs the money, yeah but if you can buy two decent strikers for what he'd bring and teach them to work together up top instead of relying on one person, you're opening the team up to more opportunities to score. Could be a win/win, as much as Reds would hate to see him go he just can't withstand the wear and tear without support.
