Rodgers expects to spend in January

By Olivavu, Sun 14/10/12 at 12:56

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has outlined his optimism that he will be allowed to bolster his side in the January transfer window.

Rodgers was left frustrated on transfer deadline day when Andy Carroll was loaned out to West Ham United with no replacement brought in for the striker.

The Reds have this week been dealt a blow with news that Fabio Borini suffered a broken foot on international duty, leaving Rodgers with Luis Suarez as his only recognised senior striker available.

Rodgers, though, has claimed that recent discussions with the club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, have been positive and that there was common ground found over potential deals in the winter transfer window.

"There are still areas we want to reinforce - and we have to reinforce as soon as we can," Rodgers is quoted as saying in the Mail on Sunday.

"Our best team are comparable to any team in the Premier League. But we're a very thin squad and we are having to challenge on a lot of fronts.

"I've had good conversations with the owners and they understand where we are at as a team."

Good. We need a few players.

2 months away so doesn't help us now though , i hope Morgan or Pacheco can step up and do something . Borini could be 3 months with that injury , was our fear really when the transfer window closed .

As long as Suarez stays fit we shouldn't need Morgan or Pacheco, and his injury record is pretty good

Well one thing is for sure Rodgers messed up with his quote that Carroll could come back in January as that just aint true.
It was'nt a straight forward loan.I see what they (West Ham) put on there official website a couple of days after Rodgers remark.
They stated they had paid £1 million for the season long loan. With 1st refusal to buy him for £17 million at the end of the season.
They are also paying all his wages for 1 season plus an extra £10,000 a week on top.
They also said they can buy him with an option on January the 1st when the transfer window opens if they feel that they are a safe position in the league by then.
So to me that closes any chance of getting him back here.

I'd rather take the £17m and reinvest it anyway to be fair, we can get better than Carroll with that money

i agree

Carroll's way to play is at thousands of miles from what BR wants

I already said it and gonna sy it again :  we should go for Marseille player : Andre Ayew !!!   son of an amazing OM player : Pele

he is a forward, can pass, can score, good header, wonderful spirit, fights hard like SG !!! let's not miss him

10-12 M euro not more imo

I'd look at Darren Bent, who isn't happy at Villa right now. He's also about 28, so the price shouldn't be sky-high, and that suits us since with Morgan, Yesil and Sinclair all maturing we only need a guy for 2 years or so. Bent is exactly what we need, a goal scorer who doesn't do much except poke the ball in the net. One player like that would take the pressure off others.

Demba Ba is another maybe, available in January for 7.5 mill by the looks of it, what a get he'd be.

Demba ba is £7.5m so he'd be the one to go for. Talk of possible deal for bent on talk sport. Would be the goal scorer we've been after god knows what villa would want for him?

I can see Villa wanting to recoup £15m on him, which is more than we should be paying.

Villa would definitely want a lot of money for him, considering how much they paid for him. He certainly hasn't really been as prolific at Villa as he was at Sunderland.

£15m would be too much, but not if we sell Carroll for £17m. I would take that as a 'swap' deal.

Maybe Downing could be used as part of a deal for Bent, should we go down that road. I'm not entirely convinced that Bent is the player he once was. I'd much rather see a serious bid go in for Sturridge.

Downing going back to villa would make sense. 8 million + downing for bent

Sturridge is a good player but is he proven goal scorer? We need someone who will definately score goals for us. Sturridge is another young potential we need seasoned definate. You'd have to say bent is that as is demba ba. Don't care which but need one.

when playing sturridge is a proven goal scorer. I think he's a very realistic target also
