The Spaniard, who guided the club to Champions League and FA Cup victories during his spell in charge also believes a move to bring him back to the club would have been welcomed by Liverpool su[supporters, who still hold him in high esteem.
"It was strange not to be approached," he told the Irish Independent.
"We know the club, the players, the Academy and we have even more experience now ... the fans were positive about the idea."
Benítez left Anfield in 2010 after a failure to qualify for the Champions League.
"We used to play so many important games that it seemed it was normal and it wasn't," said Benítez.
"People were talking about 'the past', but just a few years ago Liverpool FC was number one in Europe."

I am sure he was considered - before being disregarded.

LFC SUBTue 11/09/12 at 10:15 the reason i wanted klopp was his ability to produce without heaps of cash and an emphasis on young teams with great team spirit. seemed the best way of trying to compete with teams that have more money. rafa is a great manager and i think would always be welcome back here. rogers is making all the right noises but i think he needs time at least the 5 years we gave rafa.
dougy10Tue 11/09/12 at 16:29 na id say its more to do with people being sick of ye to be honest
Manu-23Wed 12/09/12 at 16:27 Olivavu Reply #17 Posted on: Mon 16/07/12 at 20:15 Only a fool would want to replace Reina. Olivavu remember what you said to me ???? who is the fool who wants to keep him NOW ? after his s**t beginning of season where he costed us 3 goals ALREADY
ArtonSG8Wed 12/09/12 at 16:49 Reina made these mistakes in the past seasons too.It doesn't mean that he will keep making mistakes.I think he will be better and we shouldn't look for his replacement in the near future.
OlivavuWed 12/09/12 at 18:27 He isn't suddenly a bad keeper. Suarez has missed loads of chances on goal. Should we replace him? Skrtel made a glaring error against City and a couple at the end of last season too. Should we replace him?
ArtonSG8Wed 12/09/12 at 22:06 That's what i'm saying too.
LFC SUBWed 12/09/12 at 23:18 You lot make my brain hurt what you going on about reina for this is a rafa thread isn't it?

This all came about because of Manu-23 digging up an old row. I think this thread has run it's course and I'm going to lock it off. Rafa has a thread in the old boys section.
