Reds Agree deal for Assaidi

By Badmoon, Thu 16/08/12 at 18:40

Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign winger Oussama Assaidi from SC Heerenveen, subject to the player passing a medical.

The 24-year-old scored 20 goals in 68 appearances for Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie, and has earned a growing reputation as an attacking threat.

Assaidi has represented Morocco 22 times since making his international debut in February 2011.

One of the highlights of his career to date came in a 6-2 win over FC Twente in 2010 when he scored a hat-trick and assisted the other three goals.

I just hope he has end product here and isn't just another Obertan.

He appears to according to the Youtube videos.

And I realise that Youtube videos can make ANYONE look boss (even Stewart Downing), but they can't fabricate footage, and he appears to really know how to kick a ball.

I also hope his presence doesn't stifle Sterling's progress. He is only 17, but he looks ready to play a part to me.

I think we shouldn't play sterling unless we need to. From what i've read he seems very arrogant and will let himself believe all the hype around him. This guy is nicknamed the Ferrari by many in Holland so he has pace which is at least one useful asset.

well that's a bit of a f*** you to all those apparent ITK's. Great to be doing shrewd bits of buisness again, lets hope he can forge a great career here!

Where the f**k did this come from  . Never even heard of the guy before.

Not usually one for looking up Youtube footage but the guy does look to have lightening pace and some fairly impressive skills. For 3 million, it seems like a decent enough deal. He turned 24 a couple of days ago, so hopefully he'll fit straight in.

It's annoying signing Africans, though, given that they head off for a month during the season to the Cup of Nations. Next one in January next year.

yeah that always annoys me as well ff9, but hopefully (assuming he's here to be a starter) we have enough cover in that time

Well he slipped under the radar but looking at the YouTube stuff he seems to be able to shoot with both feet has good foot skills and a fair bit of pace .

As far as Sterling goes i really think he will be loaned out this season he needs to , to get the experience and also the play time as he wont be a starter here and playing from the bench his time would be limited . he would then get frustrated and prolly want to leave as Suso seems to be getting . Tello deal seemed to be off the other day when his club said he would not be going on loan anywhere. I think we still have another signing to come from what BR said in his press conference for the WBA game we will know in 48 hours guess we just got one , he was also asked about Sahin and Tello and BR answered " they are the ones you all talk about we will see in 48 hrs " i am sure the press conference was Wednesday so pretty sure 48 hours is nearly up .

Assuming he's picked his first two games may well be against Arsenal and Man City!! Hopefully fans will reserve judgement on him and not write him off if he doesn't set the world alight from the word go!
Having said that he will tear Hearts apart

Should not hurt Sterling's progression as Assaidi plays best as a RM/RW, where Sterling is being mostly developed for the LW. Although in BR's system it seems the front three are all pretty interchangable.

Downing? A key player?

Come on Arton...

To be fair his best season as a professional, the year prior to coming to Liverpool, he played great as a RW with the majority of his goals/assists coming from that side. Do I have faith in him though? Absolutely not.
