No new signings for Reds

By Olivavu, Fri 31/08/12 at 21:52

Sky Sports sources understand Liverpool are not expected to make any signings before the transfer window deadline.

Fulham accepted Aston Villa's £7million bid for Clint Dempsey on Friday morning, but the player opted against a move to the West Midlands club in the hope of joining Brendan Rodgers' side.

However, the Cottagers failed to agree terms with the Anfield giants for the American, who has scored 50 goals for Fulham in 184 league appearances.

It is understood England international Jordan Henderson was offered as part of the deal to bring 29-year-old Dempsey to Merseyside, but negotiations broke down.

Rodgers left the club's Melwood training headquarters earlier in the evening, closely followed by managing director Ian Ayre, who had been working diligently behind the scenes trying to get deals done.

Liverpool were also interested in the possibility of signing Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge, but the youngster was named on the bench in the club's Super Cup match against Atletico Madrid in Monaco.

Rodgers has already added names such as Joe Allen, Fabio Borini and Nuri Sahin to his ranks.

However, the Northern Irishman has also lost Andy Carroll on a season-long loan to West Ham, and Jay Spearing, also on a season-long loan to Bolton Wanderers, while Charlie Adam has joined Stoke City in a £4million deal.

So, to recap our deadline day:

OUT:

Charlie Adam to Stoke City for £4m - £5m
Jay Spearing to Bolton Wanderers - loan

IN:

exactly we have got a first 11 able to compete with any team in the league. Lets just hope they stay fit and suarez finds his shooting boots and we will be ok

Exactly.

We have got Gerrard, Suarez, Allen, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Reina, Lucas, Sahin and Sterling!

We've got a good looking team. Sure we are short up front, but we'd only be taller with Carroll!

Even though we didn't sign anyone im still optimistic! We haven't seen anything from sahin or assaidi yet and they're both very good talents from what we've seen!

Our midfield is the strongest its been in years! Even with lucas' injury we still have one of the strongest midfields in the Prem.

Sterling has looked amazing on the wing and with assaidi in that makes up for the loss of kuyt and maxi, at least in terms of numbers.

With downing at left back now we have someone as an alternate/backup to enrique, which is something we've been missing for a while because lets be honest faboi aurelio was not quite up to liverpool's standards.

Our centerbacks are also two excellent players, and the fact that we held on to agger even though man city offered a crapload of money says something about Liverpool.

and even though we didnt bring in any new strikers we still have two fantastic strikers in Suarez and Borini, with youth prospects like Adam Morgan looking ready to break through. Everyone is talking about how if suarez or borini go down we're in trouble but thats not really the case because of the 433 we play means we don't have to field more than one striker! Even if borini gets hurt we still have wingers who can play the wide forward role and back up strikers to play centrally.

So even though it does suck that we didn't bring anyone in, whose the best player we were seriously linked with? Dempsey? I for one think he's a bit overrated. Yes he did well at fulham but playing at Fulham is a lot different than playing at anfield, as players like Downing, Adam, and Henderson all found out.

Gutted to be honest. I'd have been happy with just one new striker/winger. Just a player that can score goals to be honest. But like Jaylew727 we haven't seen anything from Sahin or Assaidi yet and Sterling has been pure class in the few games he has played, so everything might work out yet.

Arton is upset, he is upset, and hope that he will regret some of the things he has said today about Henry in particular.  I am very frustrated myself.  But we have a squad for now and it means that we are going to be thin up front.  We need players to improve and not get injured.  Lets hope Assaidi is good!

Ah well s**t happens we just dont have the funds it seems .To much was wasted on to little last season and it failed dismally

Morgan will be getting more of a chance now as BR said in his press conference as he will be the 3rd striker. It now becomes more important for Suarez to finish or pass when making weaving movements . people have said we havnt seen Assaidi or Sahin and that is correct Sahin seems a more complete player Assaidi made a name for himself with 1 incredible performance where he scored 3 goals and set up another 3 in a 6-0 win for his previous side . Assaidi seems more of a long term project.

But i have faith as the Mancs game we should of won , although i did say that a fair bit last season .

Well i am hoping it works but i would of really liked a signing yesterday.

It'll be interesting to see how BR takes it. He stated 8 days ago he want 3 strikers minimum so i'd be pretty pissed off if I were him but all injuries permitting we can still have a great campaign

I am not too worried about not bringing anyone in on the last day as we know from the past last minute deals can come back to bite you
Also i have great faith in BR and the team he is building
