Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed that Manchester United attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan came close to moving to Anfield.
The Armenian international was strongly linked with a switch from Shakhtar Donetsk before joining Borussia Dortmund.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was manager of the Bundesliga club at the time and he could’ve found Mkhitaryan in his Liverpool squad had things worked out differently.
“He was a player who nearly came to Liverpool, probably three or four years ago under Brendan Rodgers.” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I remember speaking to Brendan Rodgers at the time and he wanted to fill that No 10 position behind Luis Suarez.
“He went to Dortmund in the end and that’s where he played there.” he finished.
Mkhitaryan has been in good form for United of late following a slow start to life at Old Trafford following his Summer move from Germany.
