Lucas to be used as a scout

By EddieC, Sat 08/09/12 at 19:42

Lucas Leiva will take on a scouting role for Liverpool whilst he is out injured.

The Brazilian midfielder is facing up to three months out after suffering a thigh injury in the Premier League match against Manchester City on August 26.

It was a devastating blow for the 25-year-old, who had just returned from a seven-month absence with cruciate knee ligament damage.

Brendan Rodgers believes that giving Lucas some scouting work whilst he recovers will help keep his spirits high.

"Lucas is at home for a bit and he has good days and bad days," He told the Liverpool Echo.

"We will keep his spirits up and I'm going use him to go out and look at some games for me with my analyst. Tactically, he's very good. I want to make sure that he stays in the game.

"Sometimes when you stand back and look at it from a different position, you pick up different things. I put that idea to him and he thought it was good."

Lucas is the bollocks he is how I would like all our players to be. He's 100% Liverpool.

Think it's a good idea. Sort of makes me think Brendan wants him in a captain position one day. Really spoke highly of him in the interview

I suppose while the two scouts we have signed from City are on gardening leave there before joining us, we can use a little extra.

Like the idea of this hopefully Lucas's  knowledge of the brazilian league and it's players doesn't just end there, maybe he knows abit about the leagues and players in Argentinian, Colombian, Chilean etc. It's about time we broadend our scouting network to all parts of the globe, there are hungry, talented players to be found out there.
