Liverpool U21 1-0 Southampton U21

The elite group of the U21 league kicked off with a tense, but exciting 1-nil win for Alex Inglethorpe's side at The Academy.
Dani Pacheco made great strides to put in goals, but came short more than once. But he struck gold in the 60th minute when his shot took a deflection off a Southampton defender and went in for the lone goal of the game.
Other notables in the match were the towering Michael N'goo with two shots of his own and Hungarian striker Krisztian Adorjan with an effort that went wide.
The next match for the U21s will be in East London when the young reds visit West Ham to take on a side they haven't faced since 2010.

It was frustrating in the extreme. More worrying was the injuries to full backs Flanagan and Smith. Brad Smith has been in a rich vein of good form but his injury looked nasty. Let's hope it is nothing serious.
Flanagan twisted his knee making a challenge early in the game.
