Liverpool open contract negotiations with Agger

By BigDonga, Fri 21/09/12 at 17:07

Liverpool have opened contract talks with Daniel Agger.

The Danish defender was the subject of a £20 million bid from Manchester City in August, but stated his desire to remain at Anfield. Now manager Brendan Rodgers wants to ensure there is no repeat of the uncertainty of the last transfer window.

Agger has two years remaining on his current deal, and Liverpool insist they had always planned to renew terms with the 27 year-old.

Rodgers now hopes he can cement the immediate futures of both his first choice centre-backs - Martin Skrtel having signed a new contract during pre-season.

Agger’s career on Merseyside has been littered with injuries, but he seems to have put the worst of his injury worries behind him and has formed a solid partnership with Skrtel.

Good to see us getting our best players tied down on new deals, things may not be going too great on the pitch but we'll always stand a better chance with our key players still at the club
