Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is willing to spend £40m to bring Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to the club.
That’s according to an “exclusive” report by The Express, who are claiming that the Gunners are close to agreeing a new contract with the midfielder worth £100,000 a week.
The twenty-three year old has just twelve months remaining on his deal at The Emirates and manager Arsene Wenger is hoping to tie him down to new terms rather than risk losing him.
But they are reported to have placed the £40m pricetag on the former Southampton man – and Klopp is not being put off by that sum, according to the article.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has been regularly linked with a move to Liverpool, the club he supported as a boy, over the past few months. But things had gone quiet in the past few weeks.
It now looks like Klopp could be ready to pounce with a big money offer to bring the England international, who scored in the 2-2 draw with Scotland on Saturday, to Anfield this Summer.
Wenger has plenty of contract headaches on his hands with star players Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil still not tied down to extensions.
