Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has indicated that he is losing faith in the bid to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton.
The German boss has told the media that he is “happy” with his options at centre-back and challenged people to name “five that would make us stronger” as he prepares for the new season.
“Look out there and tell me five that would make us stronger. Five. Then you win a prize. It’s difficult how it is.” he said.
“We have four. I don’t think we need more. We cannot force the things and we would never get a centre back just because.
“I’m happy. You can imagine we are still working on different things and we will see if it works.
“I am already here to work with this squad and not just always thinking ‘but if we don’t get this or this’.” he finished.
Klopp has Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez available to him for the position at present and has been chasing the signature of Van Dijk all Summer.
Chelsea remain keen to do a deal with Southampton for the Holland international.
