Henderson, Downing and Enrique offered to Fulham

Brendan Rodgers was reportedly prepared to use Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson or Jose Enrique to try and land Clint Dempsey.
The US forward ending up signing for Tottenham on deadline day but reports claim that Rodgers was so determined to get his man he was prepared to offload any one of the trio, or possibly a combination of the three, to try and land his target.
Rodgers had apparently agreed a swap deal with Fulham regarding Henderson but would have also considered moves involving Downing or Enrique according to the report in the Mail.
The report also claims that Rodgers was looking to land a new left-back, as back up for Enrique, or as a possible replacement, had he been sold to finance the Dempsey deal.
In the end Dempsey went to Spurs as they offered the right financial package to Fulham to land him and Henderson, Downing and Enrique remain at Anfield.

I don't think it would do their confidence much good.
I am surprised Henderson was offered, but Enrique?
What would we have done for left back? Johnson, with Kelly on the right?
This squad is thin enough already.

What rubbish. Offering 3 players for a slightly above one? Not a chance.

I wouldn't let anyone of that trio go for Dempsey. And why when he costed only 6m.

Team building at its best. The last thing people in a team need to know is they are not wanted! If you want rid get rid. I guess they are well motivated now. This Brendan Rogers seems out of his depth and not in control if all this is to be believed!

We didn't offer all three. We were offering a choice of one from those three.

I see. That's interesting.
Downing's the only one I would have swapped for Dempsey.

Offering all three or anyone of the three still sends a message to those offered to Fulham that they are not that well thought of! I am sure they would have been best advised at the start of the transfer window that they should find a new club not used as bait to lure a better fish... is he? We thought that Downing, Henderson, Carroll and Adams would be better! And?
Turning my point around. It may give those offered to Fulham a kick up the pants to know that they would have been shipped out the door if at all possible. (Big money contracts no doubt!)They may start earning their rations now!

Why is everyone taking an article with no sources from Setanta as fact?

It was on Sky Sports News on deadline day as well that we had offered them Henderson, Downing and Adam. Adam rejected as he wanted to go to Stoke while Fulham turned down the rest and wanted cash.
Downing and Henderson don't appear to be well thought of by Rodgers going by team selection so far.
Enrique is the surprise name here. Personally, I don't think he is all that great. He is all left foot and faded more and more as last season progressed. I still don't see the point in swapping him for Dempsey though. Who would then play left back? Downing? Johnson? Robinson?

The "source" was the daily Mail reading through that. Says it all really. A load of billhooks

It was also on Sky Sports News on deadline day.
You can choose not to believe it, but I won't dismiss it so easily just because I don't like it.
