Kicker editor Jorg Jakob has claimed that former Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson is a huge fan of Bayer Leverkusen attacker Julian Brandt.
The journalist was talking to the Echo’s Anfield Extra podcast hosted by Neil Jones and Ian Doyle when he discussed the young German international.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly made the twenty year old his priority in the transfer market this Summer
“First of all I’d like to mention the name of Alex Ferguson, whom I talked to in November after he’d seen Brandt in the Champions League.” Jakob said.
“He was very impressed. And he was right, because Brandt is one of the best and finest talents we have in German football.” he added.
Jakob went on to speak about Klopp’s interest in the young star and said that it “makes complete sense”.
“The move makes complete sense. To be honest I don’t know if it will happen, but it makes sense. Leverkusen have a new manager and they definitely won’t qualify for Europe.
“This might be a reason for Brandt and his agent to say ‘Let’s go to a Champions League club like Liverpool.’
“If he trusts in Jurgen Klopp a move could happen and maybe in some years it’ll be Real Madrid.” he finished.
If Ferguson is such a fan of Brandt, then he is almost certain to have been encouraging Jose Mourinho to try and sign him for United.
