The midfielder appeared to be on the verge of a move back to his native Argentina last summer, but Kenny Dalglish convinced the player to stick it out at Anfield.
Maxi - signed from Atletico Madrid in January 2010 - scored 17 times in 73 appearances for the Reds. Highlights of the his Anfield career include two hat-tricks in the space of a few weeks against Birmingham and Fulham in 2011, as well as important strikes against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in November of that year.
EddieCFri 13/07/12 at 18:17 Shame to see him go, but it was always on the cards. Onwards & upwards as they say
BadmoonFri 13/07/12 at 18:22 I think he was on a good wage so some savings there Hopefully for Johnson, we need someone else on the left, espicially if bells goes - imagine Oli watching Downing as an integral part of the team
EddieCFri 13/07/12 at 18:24 I think he was on a good wage so some savings there Hopefully for Johnson, we need someone else on the left, espicially if bells goes - imagine Oli watching Downing as an integral part of the team I'd prefer Johnson on the right, Suarez on the left & Borini/someone new in the middle. The system that Rodgers likes to play involves the wide forwards cutting in more often than not, works better with left-footers on the right & vice-versa.
RedTilDeathFri 13/07/12 at 19:02 Goodbye Maxi, one of our better players last season but ultimately we need better. Won't be too disappointed about his departure as long as we replace him with someone decent.
jcallen29Fri 13/07/12 at 19:40 Good lad maxi wish him well. Now hope we go out and sign Adam Johnson or the lad from Madrid to replace him

OlivavuSat 14/07/12 at 00:39 Best of luck to the guy. With him and Kuyt gone it looks like Cole and Sterling will get more playing time.

I imagine Cole will. Not so sure about Sterling.
OlivavuSat 14/07/12 at 12:31 He will play more than he did last season. Guaranteed.
kopqueenSat 14/07/12 at 12:49 Not too gutted to see him go as it's been on the cards for a while, good player and did well for us. Seemed a classy person too. Good luck Maxi.
NichoSat 14/07/12 at 22:11 Good Luck Maxi. I never really fancied you as first teamer, but you provided some highlights along the way. I'll miss bumping into you in Tesco's, even though you never understood a word I said to you
