Maxi leaves Liverpool

Liverpool have today confirmed that Maxi Rodriguez has joined Newell's Old Boys in Argentina.

The midfielder appeared to be on the verge of a move back to his native Argentina last summer, but Kenny Dalglish convinced the player to stick it out at Anfield.

Maxi - signed from Atletico Madrid in January 2010 - scored 17 times in 73 appearances for the Reds. Highlights of the his Anfield career include two hat-tricks in the space of a few weeks against Birmingham and Fulham in 2011, as well as important strikes against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in November of that year.

I think he was on a good wage so some savings there

Hopefully for Johnson, we need someone else on the left, espicially if bells goes - imagine Oli watching Downing as an integral part of the team

I'd prefer Johnson on the right, Suarez on the left & Borini/someone new in the middle. The system that Rodgers likes to play involves the wide forwards cutting in more often than not, works better with left-footers on the right & vice-versa.

Goodbye Maxi, one of our better players last season but ultimately we need better. Won't be too disappointed about his departure as long as we replace him with someone decent.

With him and Kuyt gone it looks like Cole and Sterling will get more playing time.

I imagine Cole will. Not so sure about Sterling.

Not too gutted to see him go as it's been on the cards for a while, good player and did well for us. Seemed a classy person too. Good luck Maxi.
