Enrique: "Agger and Skrtel are best partnership"

Liverpool FC’s Daniel Agger & Martin Skrtel are the best defensive partnership around - Jose Enrique
LIVERPOOL FC boast the best centre-back pairing in the Premier League, according to left-back Jose Enrique.
The Spaniard admits he’s relishing playing alongside Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel, whose excellent form has consigned Jamie Carragher to bench duty for the first time in his illustrious career.
The Reds boast the second best defensive record in the top flight having conceded just 23 goals in 25 games this season.
“I play with amazing players,” Enrique said.
“For me, I wouldn’t change our centre-backs for any centre-backs in the league.
"They are both playing amazingly.
“We have one of the best right-backs in the world because Johnno (Glen Johnson) is really good, and one of the best keepers, and we have amazing players in front who help us to defend.”
Last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United coupled with Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Aston Villa, saw Pepe Reina slip to second place behind Joe Hart in the table for most clean sheets.
Enrique is hoping Reina goes on to clinch the Golden Glove for the fourth time this season but insists victories are more important than shutouts.
“Clean sheets are really important because if you keep one, you have one point for sure,” he added.
“But if we won each game 6-5, I wouldn’t care.
"The most important thing is winning the games, but I’m really happy when we keep clean sheets.
“We are doing well. We defend and attack as one – we play together.
"I’m happy because as a team we’re doing well.
“We have to keep doing this and score more goals.”

They have looked amazing together this season, it speaks volumes that we haven't been lamenting Carragher's inevitable decline, as we have had a centre back pairing capable of making sure he's not missed.

I think this was always Rafa's plan.

Agree, Kenny's had a lot of luck that Agger hasn't been injured like in previous seasons. *touch wood

Its funny a few months ago, I was hoping for that rich Russian team to come and put a sizeable bid for him in January and for us to buy someone like Cahill.

I thought we needed cahill last summer aswell maybe to play alongside carragher. Glad to b proven wrong Agger and skrtel have been a real rock at the heart of the defence. Do feel slightly sorry for carra though thought he had atleast another season in the team. Excellent back up though

I have always been sure about Agger, but never was about Skrtel. I thought he was someone we signed after failing to get Vidic that would fill a squad role, but he has been excellent since Kenny came back and long may it continue.
