Barcelona have not given up hope of signing Philippe Coutinho.
Spanish outlet Don Balon are reporting that the La Liga giants have not been put off by the Brazil international putting pen to paper on a new contract at Anfield.
The Catalan club are said to view the former Inter Milan player as an ideal candidate to succeed Camp Nou icon Andres Iniesta and are still keen on a Summer bid.
Coutinho has long been linked with a switch to the Spanish club and there has been plenty of public encouragement from compatriots Neymar, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho – all of which do or did play for Barcelona.
Manager Jurgen Klopp, who has also been linked with a move to the Spanish club, is not entertaining the idea of letting his star man leave Anfield to join Barcelona.
But none of this is said to be deterring them from going ahead with an attempt to lure Coutinho away from Merseyside once the season is finished.
If Coutinho did decide to push for the move, his new contract – which doesn’t have a release clause – would at least see the fee rise with Liverpool’s increased bargaining power.
