Liverpool’s youngsters produced a fantastic performance to earn a goalless draw with an experienced Everton Reserve side at Goodison Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The Blues fielded the likes of Leon Osman, Jack Rodwell, Victor Anichebe, Seamus Coleman, Phil Jagielka and James McFadden, but Rodolfo Borrell's talented side were more than a match for their hosts.

Everton's Slovakian stopper Jan Mucha had an inspired game in goal as he denied Liverpool time and time again to earn his side a point.

Raheem Sterling might have had a first half hat-trick and he also curled a sublime effort that came back off the post.

Borrell's charges continued to press in the second half but Mucha was the obstacle denying Nathan Eccleston and Conor Coady.

Despite not being able to find a goal, the performance delighted Borrell ahead of next Wednesday's NextGen Series semi-final with Ajax at St Helens.

"I am delighted with the lads, they played some good football and were unlucky not to win," Borrell told Liverpoolfc.tv

"We created some great chances but the Everton goalkeeper made some excellent saves. To play like that against an experienced team gives us a lot of encouragement for the future."

Liverpool team: Jones, McLaughlin, Mendy, Sama, Wisdom, Coady, Suso, Roberts, Eccleston, Adorjan, Sterling. Subs unused: McGiveron, Ward, Roddan, Morgan, Ngoo.

A decent result for our second string, but let's hope the first-team get a better result against Everton in a week's time.

Lots of chances, great performance by the oppo's GK, hitting the woodwork....... sounds depressingly familiar.

When you consider the Premier League experience of a number of players in the opposition lineup to get a draw is a very positive result. Hopefully the frustration in front of goal is a one-off, the ressies haven't suffered too badly in that aspect this season.

It will have given the youngsters a lot of confidence given the amount of first-teamers in the Everton side.

And I bet they are pissed it was a draw!

I've just read that the NextGen SF against Ajax is to be played at St Helens RFC Langtree Park ground. It has an 18,000 capacity but i can only assume the club don't want games on consecutive nights at Anfield.(Blueshite Tuesday, this game Wednesday). With prices at a fiver for adults and £2 for kids, it's a good opportunity to see some top quality youth team football. I guess it will also be shown on LFCTV but i haven't been able to confirm that yet.

And mashing up the pitch would only give Stoke an advantage!

Fair comment. At least they won't be able to shorten and narrow the pitch.

I think they should sack Tony Pulis and bring in Sam Allardyce, then they really can be the new Bolton.

Goal was scored in like the 4th minute. Suso and Sterling look quality tho, Suso's passing is top notch and nice and tricky, comfortable on the ball. Sterling looks like a good wide prospect, pacy, good feet and decent shot on him.

Definitely want to see those two feature in the first team at some point this season.

Reserves v Newcastle

Gulacsi - Mendy, Sama, Wisdom, Robinson - Coady, Roberts - Suso, Adorjan, Sterling - Eccleston...subs: Ward, Smith, Roddan, Ngoo, Morgan.

Looks a good team to me!

LFCTV are saying Coady is playing centre back and Wisdom in centre midfield - that would surprise me, but interesting to see.

The team has started this way.

Sterling wins the ball, runs at the Newcastle defense and wins a freekick with his first run in a dangerous position.

0-1 Newcastle score shot outside the box following a corner which we fail to clear.

Poor start by us, we can't seem to get out passing going.

Newcastle player gets the ball and starts running at the defense.  Mendy slips, Coady blocks the Newcastle player and they get a penalty which they score.

Ngoo on for Adorjan.

Coady and Wisdom have switch back to their usual positions as well.

Wow Liverpool look a different team in the second half.  We are playing at a high tempo, sharp passing, have pushed right up the field playing in the Newcastle half and Suso in his favoured central role is running the show.

Sterling and Eccleston (who is now wide left) are staying wide and causing the Newcastle fullbacks problems with their directness.  Sterling gets the ball wide, crosses to Ngoo and it is now 2-1.

Newcastle have a couple of good French youngsters in this reserve team.  There French scout working his magic again!

Morgan on for Eccleston.

Suso gets straight red for a challenge, not for the first time this season.

It is a dreadful decision, just like the first red card was he got earlier in the season against United.

Beardsley who is part of the Newcastle reserves coaching set up, goes over to the ref and says it is never a red card!

You got to love Beardsley!

Full time: 1-2.

Shame we didn't play the first half like we did the second.

MOTM - Suso

Might be the last time that team play together, as I suspect a few of those players could be released in the summer.

It was a poor first half with a few played in experimental positions. Second half performance merited a draw at least. It's good to see our up and coming refs are learning well from their senior counterparts. Suso's straight red was a disgraceful decision.
(PS nice one beardo  - see previous post)
