Spanked 4 - 0. Although Suso's sending off was harsh, we didn't play well. Too many not at the races. i thought Stirling would be gagging for this after signing his contract but he was very quiet. Sama looked decent at the back as did Flanagan, but Wilson and Wisdom let themselves down at times. Amoo worked hard when he came on.
Considering we could of gone top with a win, the desire and / or belief didn't seem to be there. To mirror the first team, we did manage to hit the woodwork.

It was a poor decision, but given by the Lino. Suso, who has been out of form recently, looked back to his best and  had been pulling the strings until his dismissal. I agree, TAP, that up 'til then we were probably on top. But our second half display was bad. They gave it up after the first goal went in.

And it's official:

http://www.nextgenseries.com/en/Tournament-news/Comments-and-Features/2012/February/Liverpool-FC-through-to-Semi-Finals-after-Tottenham-Withdraw-from-the-Tournament

Liverpool through after Tottenham withdraw

A spokesperson for the NextGen Series, said:

“Following conversations with senior Tottenham Hotspur officials, we have agreed to accept their withdrawal from the semi final stages of the event.

This is hugely unfortunate and we are sorry to see that such a hard fought encounter as witnessed at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night should have this conclusion. However, we can only applaud the Club for demonstrating such impeccable levels of sportsmanship and for acting in a manner which recognises the good spirit of both the Tournament and the game itself.

We thank both clubs for their help and support in making this first year of the event such a success and we look forward to welcoming Liverpool to the semi-finals.”

Liverpool Football Club will now progress to the semi final stage where they will face the winners of the FC Barcelona versus Ajax encounter which takes place next week, 8 th February 2012.

Tottenham Hotspur will return to the NextGen Series next season.

Shame it had to be this way but we did batter Spurs for most of the game and deserved to win. Poetic justice in a way.

True Nicho, do feel bad for their other kids that didn't do anything wrong though.

The teams that lost these quater finals were meant to play for spots 5 to 8. Anyone know if Spurs will still be playing in those?

Also for those that don't know, we will be playing the winner of Ajax and Barca (who play on the 8th) in the semi.

Jonjo Shelvey was on the mark as a strong Liverpool Reserve side beat Norwich City 4-0 at Melwood on Tuesday afternoon.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes and Nathan Eccleston was a double marksman.

Raheem Sterling netted the other goal for Rodolfo Borrell's side.

Due to the condition of the playing surface at Kirkby, a late decision was taken to move the fixture to the first team training complex at Melwood.

Fabio Aurelio played the entire 90 minutes on the left side of midfield while Sebastian Coates was an impressive performer at the back.

Jack Robinson played for an hour on his return from injury, while Brad Jones got a run-out in goal.

Borrell's charges played some outstanding football on the day and could have scored more than four.

Eccleston opened the scoring after seven minutes with a close range finish after an excellent run and cross from Jon Flanagan.

The striker then hit the bar before he made it 2-0 after 39 minutes when he slotted home from a Sterling assist.

The talented winger then made it 3-0 with a great finish from a tight angle.

Shelvey then made it 4-0 with an opportunist strike after more good work from Sterling.

Liverpool team: Brad Jones, Jon Flanagan, Jack Robinson, Sebastian Coates, Andre Wisdom, Conor Coady, Raheem Sterling, Jonjo Shelvey, Nathan Eccleston, Krisztian Adorjan, Fabio Aurelio.

Nice convincing win from the ressies. Good to see Sterling on the scoresheet again too, think next season could see him get a shot at the first team
