Sheikh Mohammed has reportedly ditched DIC to launch a personal bid for the takeover of Liverpool Football Club.

According to The Mirror, the Sheikh has decided to go it alone and is prepared to dip into his personal fortune to gain control of the club.

DIC's charter states the government company must 'maximise long-term shareholder value', which effectively means it should turn over as big a profit as possible in the least space of time. With the current economic situation it would prove difficult to make gains in the short term, so the Sheikh is said to be planning to dump DIC to free him of such restrictions and enable him to invest heavily in the club.

The one stumbling block could be George Gillett & Tom Hicks' valuation of the club, with the American owners previously setting a price of ?750m. With recent news though of work on the new stadium being effected by the credit crunch and speculation that the pair will struggle to restructure their loans in January, it is hoped they will return to the negotiating table with more reasonable expectations.

Would be brilliant news if there's any truth in this, there have been reports that Sheikh Mohammed sees the Man City takeover as his neghbours getting one over on him & is determined to get our club at any cost, so who knows?

Yeah but I don't trust the writer of that article sounds dodgey

Hopefully though we can have the owner situation sorted out in a couple of months.

All around the fields, of Anfield road,
Where once we watched the King Kenny play and could he play!
Stevie Heighway on the wing, we had dreams and songs to sing,
Of the Glory round the fields of Anfield Road.

I'd love it if this is true, as you say Eddie it may well be a case of 'keeping up with the Jones' and now that the Man City takeover has gone through it may increase Sheikh Mohammed's desire to get hold of this club.

Personally I think it is true, Ive just vented all my disgust in those sickeningly greedy yanks on lfcreds so I wont do it here. There has been a fair bit of talk about it all and seeing as the guy that took over City is his son in law I think he will invest in the club now if theyre rivalry is anything like what has been said about them.

Liverpool takeover: Sheikh Mohammed ditches DIC to make solo bid for club[/size]

By David Maddock 11/09/2008

Sheikh Mohammed will step up his bid to buy Liverpool by using his own money to invest in the club.

The oil-rich Arab leader of Dubai has ditched DIC - the investment arm of his government - as the buy-out company he will use if he gets the chance to purchase the Anfield club from Americans Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Instead, he will dip into his own wealth to get his hands on the Premier League outfit, with insiders suggesting that will allow him to invest far more money into Liverpool.

DIC's charter states the government company must "maximise long-term shareholder value", which in effect means it should turn over a big profit as soon as possible.

But the current financial climate wouldn't allow that with Liverpool, and instead the Arab billionaire is ready to sink his own money into the club to build a new stadium and invest heavily in the team.

Sheikh Mohammed wants to rival the Abu Dhabi owners of Manchester City, and now sees Liverpool less in terms of a pure investment. But despite being among the wealthiest men in the world, he still refuses to pay over the odds to the Americans.

The Mirror understands that Hicks and Gillett are prepared to sell, but only at ?300million above the Arab's valuation of around ?450million.

A solo bid for us sounds pretty decent. Weather it will come true i aint sure. Every so often a report comes out saying a bid is gonna be made or whatever. I'm getting pretty pissed of with the storys around our ownership.

The fact this story says Sheikh Mohammed will use his own money brightens my day up alot. The yanks wont even touch their wallet, yet this fella will dig deep into his own pocket for us to buy Liverpool Football Club. Lets just hope he digs deep enough to buy us.

There's no doubting that the Sheikh wants to own Liverpool Football Club but he certainly wont be held to ransom by the pair of 'Yankers' that currently own us. Until they get real and lower the valuation i cant see Sheikh Mohammed becoming our saviour anytime soon.

I think, therefore iMac

If it's gonna happen it will most likely be January, that is when the current refinancing deal runs out & it's appearing less & less likely that G+H will be able to broker a new deal. I'm gonna try my hardest to put this to the back of my mind until then & ignore the inevitable shite the press will spew up.

Hopefully we shall see something happen in january, but the yanks do need to be real in their valuation of the club, yes they want to make a profit WHEN they do sell but they need to give the club a chance and get their heads out of their arses and sell
