But he couldn't be banned...  It never happened.  Radio Marca is bullshit, remember?  They're never right.

Apparently he gave an even more critical interview to Cadena SER (never heard) after his Marca interview...

I think he is angling to get sold while the Russian transfer window is still open...

Whatever his motivation, he will be the only loser in this battle....

Reaction to Albert Riera's Rafa Benitez outburst - Liverpool FC latest

Mar 18 2010 By David Randles

ALBERT RIERA told us everything and nothing with his outburst against Rafa Benitez.

It is common knowledge that the Liverpool boss didn't exactly graduate from the Harry Redknapp school of man-management.

But when declaring the influence Benitez had on his decision to join Liverpool a year-and-a-half ago, surely Riera already knew this.

If not, then a quick flick through Jamie Carragher an Steven Gerrard's autobiography's would have enlightened him.

Benitez doesn't have favourites, preferring instead to treat all of his players as equals.

While it works for some, it doesn't for others. Riera would appear to be in the latter camp.

Benitez's reluctance to put an arm around a player or massage egos has led to whispers of him being cold and dismissive.

This appears to be the basis of Riera's comments, which are no doubt borne of frustration at finding himself out of the team recently.

While he has shown glimpses of why Benitez paid Espanyol £6m for the winger, Riera has struggled to produce any kind of consistency for Liverpool.

The player will argue that this is difficult to achieve when he's not in the team week after week, but his last performance, against Unirea Urziceni at Anfield, was perhaps his worst in a Liverpool shirt.

Since then, Maxi Rodriguez has come into the reckoning in Riera's place, while another player who has been known to have a thing or two to say about his manager, Ryan Babel, has also taken his chance.

While Benitez has shown leniency with Babel following the Dutchman's infamous Tweet episode, Riera may be viewed as a more senior player who perhaps should know better.

If the motivation to air his views to Spanish radio station, Marca, was to make Spain's World Cup squad, then his comments could not have been more ill-timed.

To force his way into Vicente del Bosque's thinking, then Riera must surely hope to play - and play well - for Liverpool between now and the end of the season.

Criticising Benitez like this will not have helped his cause.

Linky...

Albert Riera training ground bust-up with Liverpool FC youngster meant radio outburst was final straw

Mar 18 2010 By Dominic King

ALBERT RIERA’S Liverpool career could be over within weeks after he was suspended by the club following his astonishing verbal attack on Rafa Benitez.

The Reds winger has been told to stay away from Melwood until Monday after giving an interview to Spanish radio station Marca, in which he criticised Benitez’s preferred style of play and the lack of chances he has been afforded this season.

That outburst was the final straw for an enraged Benitez, as Riera was recently involved in a training ground bust-up with an unnamed young member of Liverpool’s squad that appalled witnesses to the incident.

Riera is understood to have landed at least one blow on the youngster.

The Spain international’s attitude has been poor for weeks in training and he has hardly figured in the squad since a desperate personal performance in the 1-0 win over Unirea Urziceni last month.

Riera was not at Anfield last night, as Liverpool booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Lille.

He has also been heavily fined for his comments and it is now inevitable that he will be jettisoned from Anfield, the only question is when he will be gone.

Yet, incredibly, that did not stop Riera airing his grievances once again last night, as he conducted another radio interview, this time with a different Spanish radio station.

He attempted to diffuse the situation between him and Benitez but, clearly, their relationship looks to have suffered irreparable damage.

“Benitez has said nothing to me,” Riera said. “I don’t want a war with the manager but at the same time I am not to blame. I am a player and I have to play.

“We have spoken a lot in the last two years. But about this? No we have not spoken about it all. I played all of last year, and sometimes when I did not play well in one game, I would play in the next.

“But this year I have not played at all, and I do not know why. When that starts happening, you have to assume it is personal, rather than professional.

“I believe that in these situations it is better to talk to try to fix it, or at least to make sure you know everyone’s position.

“I have no problem talking to people. The most important thing is the best thing for the club. I am not interested in the slightest in Rafa being my enemy, totally the opposite.

“I do not want to create trouble, but in this situation I have little chance of going to the World Cup. I am trying to solve the problem so I at least have a small chance.”

yea but a manager can't let a 27 year old smack around a kid who's 18. And in front of witnesess. If i were rafa, i would have fired him on the spot, no transfer. Just fired and i would have requested a ban from the FA. This isn't the sort of thing that can or should be forgiven. Things are currently not too good at anfield and to fix and prepare things for next season the team need to band together. Anyone who can't needs to be dropped as dead weight.

And quit frankly, i think Pacheco has shown more promise in his last 2 senoir performances than Riera has all season. So if i had to choose one of the 2 to stay because of friction between them. I'd pick pacheco every time

ALso people keep saying that it's proof rafa is poor at man management. but notice how it is only every players doing badly that critisize him. perhaps they are slightly biased bearing in mind that rafa can't be that bad at man management because he got Torres to come to Anfield despite the fact that he had said he wanted to at Atletico forever. Rafa flew over had a word with him and flew back with a contract and a £20m striker that would go no-where else

it's not riera hate, it's just that it's impossible to forgive his actions.

if you want a transfer, you speak to your agent. Not the press. That is what your agent is paid for. You don't put the boot into your own club and manager. It's just suggests that riera isn't proffessional, he's tempremental and doesn't think like a team mate should
