Yeah no doubt it will have been a disappointing season, but there's not a lot we can do about that so I prefer not to dwell on it. I am confident with the form we are now showing we will secure CL qualification, it's not ideal but it happens to the best of them - Chelsea finished third last year whilst Arsenal have been fourth more often than not in recent years. Personally I don't believe any of the 'big four' should get too up in arms about finishing fourth once, the quality they're up against means it's always a possibility. We just have to move on from it and do a better job next season. If we see similar form then that is the time I think real questions will need to be asked of Rafa, but not before.

I can't really say I've seen any 'worrying signs' this season though tbh. Plenty of crap performances but nothing to convince me there's a long term problem.

I agree that we should be ok for 4th in the long run, mate.

But where we're not on the same page is your "if we see it again next season" remark...  This is the 5th time in 6 seasons we've been out of the title chase by Christmas. That's not a blip, it's a trend.

It's only this season & last that I believe we've had any right to expect a title challenge though. When Rafa came in we were light years behind the competition and weren't gonna catch them overnight, it's been a building process and in those first few seasons a title challenge was unrealistic.

What Rafa has been doing though is closing the gap on our rivals each season - until this one. As far as I'm concerned Rafa has progressed the club well overall, it's just this campaign that we haven't built on the previous one. Like I said in my last post every team has a poor season sometimes though & I feel Rafa deserves next season to get it right.

If we can have expected a title challenge last season, then we should have expected one the in 07/08 as well. Our squad was basically the same.

All around the fields, of Anfield road,
Where once we watched the King Kenny play and could he play!
Stevie Heighway on the wing, we had dreams and songs to sing,
Of the Glory round the fields of Anfield Road.

Expected or otherwise, we got one.
