Our Recent Form

We've had four wins and two draws in the last six league games, meaning 14 points out of a possible 18. This is title winning form, but it still doesn't seem to be enough for many because of the poor results that came before this recent run.
I think it's about time we stopped looking at what a poor start to the season we had, it's done now and there's nothing we can do to change it. All we can do is focus on getting the maximum points possible from the remaining games, and of late we don't seem to be doing that bad a job.
If we can continue our post-Christmas form I have no doubts 4th place will be a certainty

Quality post, Eddie.
The dissapointment of being out of the title race, FA Cup and Champions League I think is still stinging in some, and they are letting their frustration out. I can understand that, but at the same time, as you say, we have to move on. Our recent form is good and signs are promising. If we can get that 4th place, then there is no reason why we can't challenge again next season.

We desperately need to start showing consistency from now till the end of the season and with 14 points from a possible 18 some will say its returned but we all know how quickly we can lose it.
Its good form to take into the derby this weekend. We should now be heading into that game with our heads up and in a positive frame of mind.
I'd like to think we can continue on but I'm a realist and i know there will be more blips along the way.
Hopefully we can get Torres back ASAP and a return of form for Gerrard. With these two firing on all cylinders our push for 4th should be made more easier than it will be without them.
I think, therefore iMac

February's PL games are:
Everton (h)
Arsenal (a)
Man City (a)
Blackburn (h)
If we can maintain our form over this month we should hopefully see a major disolution of the naysayer brigade! We could really reel Man City in this month.

It's huge but don't think it will break our season. Looking at it think City will be our main rivals to 4th place.

10 point from those games (especially with a win at the emirates) and we could be looking at 3rd spot. Hope for 12 but realisically I'd settle for 8

Have to concur with that. Still a lot of games to play after Feb. However, a bit of momentum now would help a LOT!!!

If we can get 10 points from those games, I will be very delighted.
Everton and Blackburn we SHOULD win. Arsenal and City are tougher. Without Torres against Arsenal, at the Emirates, I'd take a draw. He could be back for City though, and I think our current form is better than their's anyway.

Our current form is better than the arse as well. A top performance at the emirates would get us 3 points against a side lacking in a bit of confidence at the moment. I actually think the hardest game of the 4 is tomorrows against the blueshite. They are improving (unfortunately) and look a better side than the one that outplayed us at Goodison but still managed to lose. We've improved as well so it should be interesting. Their brand of "kick, bollock & bite" football isn't pretty but can be effective. I'll be a happy man if they play better than us and lose again. Nothing better than winding up the bitter blues than agreeing with lthem that they were the better team but then remind them that they lost!
Of course, I'd be even happier if we rip the back out of them and score 6.

Whilst I agree with the sentiments of the post, that if 4th, maybe 3rd, is all that we have left to go for, let's flippin' do it, I also think it's fair to say that, if we do succeed in achieving our new goal of CL qualification for next season, we would still have to look at this season as an enormous dissapointment, with some very worrying signs being displayed by all concerned.
Kinda goes back to the "real supporter" discussion, doesn't it? We can all sing our hearts for the lads out while they're trying to pull our season out of the ditch, but we should also acknowledge that it's a position that we should never have found ourselevs in to begin with...

Yeah no doubt it will have been a disappointing season, but there's not a lot we can do about that so I prefer not to dwell on it. I am confident with the form we are now showing we will secure CL qualification, it's not ideal but it happens to the best of them - Chelsea finished third last year whilst Arsenal have been fourth more often than not in recent years. Personally I don't believe any of the 'big four' should get too up in arms about finishing fourth once, the quality they're up against means it's always a possibility. We just have to move on from it and do a better job next season. If we see similar form then that is the time I think real questions will need to be asked of Rafa, but not before.
I can't really say I've seen any 'worrying signs' this season though tbh. Plenty of crap performances but nothing to convince me there's a long term problem.

4th place!! Albeit not permanently if Tottenham are to defeat Villa, or City win 2 of their games in hand.
Even so, we were 7th not too long ago. We needed a good run, and we've certainly had that since Christmas. Not only are we getting results, but we're getting good results. We've beaten Villa, Spurs and Everton, with a player less for about an hour.
It's not just who we are beating either, the players are lifting and the performances are improving rapidly. Dirk Kuyt, Steven Gerrard, Albert Riera, Jamie Carragher, Soreios Kyrgiakos, Emmiliano Insua - all have improved significantly in the second half of the season. And it shows.
