hello fellow reds ive been following lfc since i was 5 and 25 years later im still a loyal fan and no doubt always will be but...we have american owners, spanish management and majority foreign players. nothing new there but will i still want to support them if our entire team is foriegn?  gerrard, carra and johnson are our only english first teamers.  torres, reina and kuyt no problems as they are brilliant and adopted scousers but i dont feel ANY affiliation at all with ANY of the rest.  When the time comes that we field 11 foreigners every week i may as well support barcelona or arsenal!  im sure not everyone feels this way.  When jay spearing gets a RARE run out i am absolutley thrilled and really willing him to do well 100% more than a foreign player.  Is rafa telling me that a city that produced Owen, Fowler, Gerrard, Carra, Rooney, Mcmanaman in recent times has nothing left to offer? no more players of any quality? im sure youve asked yourself the question exactly who am i following here? i would rather be down the bottom of the league than field 11 foreigners and i genuinely mean that.  win at all costs? no thanks!

Most of our best players throughout history weren't English.

Dalglish, Souness, Hansen, Rush etc.

Jay Spearing isn't good enough for LFC, scouse or not.

All around the fields, of Anfield road,
Where once we watched the King Kenny play and could he play!
Stevie Heighway on the wing, we had dreams and songs to sing,
Of the Glory round the fields of Anfield Road.

so you would be happy to field an entire foreign team run by a foreign manager, owned by foreign owners? dont you think we should invest in some english talent?  do you think insua is better than warnock?  how do you know spearing is not good enough people said and still say that about lucas? rafa stuck with him.  do you think ngog is better than crouch?  do you think its likely that there is a young lad in liverpool who is as good as voronin?  i think we should have more identity with where were from but if you want to look at it from purely football point of view we would be stronger, have a better team spirit and have more chance of winning prem with more english players.

couldn't care what team we fielded as long as we won things, or are you one of the purple wheelie bin brigade who think us ooters shouldn't support our great club

most of our best players through history werent english?  youve listed foreign players?  your point being?

keegan, fowler, carra, gerrard, barnes, hunt, beardsley, hughes, neal, owen, thompson, smith

i think a team of english players with reina, torres, kuyt would be stronger than the one we have now. and i think we should field english players as we are an english team.

one of our most successful teams had no Englishman in it.

When the Reds won the FA cup in 1986 no Englishmen appeared for the Reds.  The only sub, Steve McMahon never got on the pitch.

i know, im not trying to offend anyone its just what i think.  our own players and managers are not trusted as much as foreigners.  how many times have i heard "he must be good hes an argentine international or brazillian international" well there are english internationals go for some of them.  they also in the main hit the ground running rather than need time to settle. all english players know what it means to play for liverpool the history is embeded in them.

One difference between say a fully fledged Argentine international and an English one is the price tags as you end paying £10m more for a Englishman than a foreigner, also no PL team would sell an England international to a rival English team

Spot on...Darren Bent 18 mil?.Carrick 18mil?Bridge 9 mil?And we paid over the odds for Johnson aswell just for the fact that he is English.Dont get me wrong I think Johnson is a quality player but the transfer fee was very steep.

I do not care who dons the shirt as long as they WANT to play for us, as long as they GIVE their all in the shirt, and as long as they are GOOD enough to wear the shirt...

That said we will never have a superstars in every position, so even so so players have their place....

Traore, Cisse, Baros, Josemi, Biscan, Nunez, Garcia all did their part for us to win in 05...

To hope for a team of English players in today's market is crazy, especially when you can find a better foreigner cheaper...

Oh, and I would have Insua over Warnock anyday... He is better than Warnock was at this stage of his career, and will continue to get better...

Below is the last team to win us the title 89/90  To me I have always been a huge fan of a core body of English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh players in the team. Brought up following the game and playing the game in England most of these players know how tough it is and where the heart was worn. There were always a good core of scandanavian players also.

Look at the 4 teams that have gone on to win since then - ManUre - mostly UK / Irl when they were winning regularly. Arsenal and Chelsea not as many but probably half of the team were UK / Irl and Blackburn mostly UK / Irl.

Im not saying we are losing our identity but I would love to see more UK / Irl players in the team.

GK Bruce Grobbelaar - SA
  GK Mike Hooper - ENG
  DF Gary Ablett - ENG
  DF David Burrows - ENG
  DF Gary Gillespie - SCOT
DF Alan Hansen (captain) - SCOT
  DF Steve Harkness - ENG
  DF Glenn Hysén - SWE
  DF Steve Nicol - SCOT
  DF Steve Staunton - IRL
  DF Nick Tanner - ENG
  DF Barry Venison - ENG
  DF Alex Watson - ENG
  MF John Barnes - ENG
  MF Ray Houghton - IRL
  MF Jim Magilton - NIRL
  MF Mike Marsh - ENG
  MF Steve McMahon - ENG
  MF Jan Mølby - DEN
  MF Ronnie Whelan - IRL
FW John Aldridge (to September) - IRL (SCOUSE)
  FW Peter Beardsley - ENG
FW Kenny Dalglish (Player/Manager) - SCOT
FW Ronny Rosenthal (from March) - ISRAEL
  FW Ian Rush - WELSH

More "local"/"british" talent would be great, but if they do not come through the youth system it will be hard to get them...

The days of plucking a "Kenny" out of nowhere is becoming increasingly difficult with all the money being tossed around...
