As an Irishman I take great offence to ABU Jay lumping us in with that lot.

Otherwise this thread is a crock of s**t. It's the way football is at the moment.

I rate Insua higher than Warnock when on form.

If the talent ain't there......

im all for foreign imports that are of real quality and admit there is no english torres or reina at the moment.  i dont subscribe to the english players are too expensive argument as weve hit parrity pretty much. masch £20m aqua £20m babel £11m etc.  we have been blessed with some brilliant foreign signings hysen, hyypia, alonso, hamman etc etc.

i think the big difference is the team spirit and the banter.  the english/british lads are always the focal point of the banter etc the more you have the better the team will be on the pitch. chelsea - terry, lampard, the coles.. manure - rooney, carrick, rat face etc... liverpool - gerrard, carra + we need some more they are always the focal point for the team. thats what were lacking.

insua and warnock was just an example i would rather have warnock local lad good for the team obviously if he was s**t i wouldnt want him in the team but as an example i think we would be stronger.

You left out arsenal who won a title without very many "british" players...

The banter part is wrong, because if most of the team is of one nationality, or at least speak the same language then the banter will be just as much as if the same number of "british" players are there...

The one thing I will say is that a team of "british" players might have a bigger desire to win the league, but then again you only have to look around the league and see that the teams with the most "british" players in them do not really do so well...

A mixture of players does better...

I did mention Arsenal although they did really only have Seaman, Parlour, Campbell and Keown.

I'd be concerned if there were young talents coming out of Liverpool that we were missing out on, but since Gerrard broke through there's only really been Rooney - who was always Everton-bound.

With regards to players from other parts of the country, we're not gonna get them as youngsters, and as Paisley quite rightly says to buy an established English player usually costs silly money.

If they were equally talented & the same price I'd take an Englishman over a foreigner any day, but when is that ever the case?

losing identity i wouldnt go that far but in away i kinda agree,i said that loosing stevie highway from the youth set up was stupid cause he is what kept the identity to the past and instilled it into the kids but also sayin that for years the academy have produced nothing so maybe a change was needed....

its a funnie 1 for me bein a scouser id luv nothing more than a 1st team full of scousers but in a million years thats never gonna happen,i look back at some of my fav players and most have been forign, brucie was my idol growing up he was from south africa, for me there birth place shouldnt be an issue aslong as when they pull on the red shirt they play with heart, commitment and belife, if they do that for me it dosnt matter....

english players are over valued and over ratted and once the forigners have lived in liverpool and ran out at anfield to a full house they will no what it means to play for the club...

if i had to choose between buying a decent english kid for say 25 mill or can go out and find 2 players that are just as good for 12.5 mill each its a no brainer in the modern game

There doesn't seem to be many English talent knocking around or coming through at the moment, maybe it is due to the fact that there is an abundence of foreign managers coming in to England and they are looking at their own countrymen rather than English talent??????? Think we would like to see more English lads coming through but the fact that they are few and far between they cost more that their foreign counterpart........

Maybe we need a centre of excellence set up (if not already) to start reproducing English players, i know teams have academys but they are being used to find Europe's best and train them the club way.

there was a rule that kids attending the academy had to live within a certain radius of the center, sumin like 45min journie, now i no this cause my mate tryed to get his lad in and he couldnt cause he lived to far away so he tryed everton cause they were closer and he went there instead,i dont no if this has changed over the years,i no lfc use foster familys to take care of very young forign lads when they 1st get here.....

If this rule is still in use then you could set up a network of excellence centres across the country say 1 in north east, 1 in north west, 1 in midlands and so on but extend the traveling time to 1hour away.

The sad fact is English players, with the exception of the top 30 or so, are not good enough. How many play at the top clubs abroad? It's reflected at International level. Forty odd year since any success at that level and likely to be forty more 'til the next.
There is talk of introducing rules to ensure clubs have a certain number of home grown players. Sounds like a good idea until you realise that all it will do is reduce the playing standards overall.

I wouldn't watch a shite film just because it was made locally or had local stars and its much the same for the football. As long as the players wear the shirt I couldn't give a stuff if they come from England, Tanzania or Uranus.

i think its a fair point to say we could do with more home grown players when you look at an away fixture in north england from oct to feb would you be confident that a lad from southern europe or south america will be as up for the hard slog as a local(eng, irl, scot, wls) lad.yes there are some exceptions to this like torres or alonso when he was with us that will give 100% no matter where they are but the vast majority will and do struggle.being local dosen,t guarantee commitment but its a help.
if the talent isn,t comming through the youth setup then we,re forced to look else where and buy prospects from europe and beyond to keep the show on the road.hence raffa,s 100 plus signings that the media love banging on about.
