GOALS: We don't score enough of them

And it has proven to be a mistake.

He was signed as a first choice goal scorer, whatever the price, and he has not done anywhere near well enough.

I wasn't sure when we signed him as we have done better with technically proficient strikers in recent times and he is not gifted in that area.

I think Kenny has wasted a lot of money and a massive chunk was blown on this lad.

The constant assertion that our hitting the woodwork so often is bad luck is nonsense.

We are not good enough. Hitting the post is as close to scoring a goal as hitting the corner flag - it does not count as a goal either way.

LIVERPOOL FC’S players have scored only one more Premier League goal this season than Robin van Persie.

It’s an alarming statistic that explains why Arsenal are now 10 points clear of the Anfield outfit in the race for Champions League qualification.

Van Persie’s double strike was a shining example of how a dead-eye, clinical striker can transform an otherwise ordinary, unspectacular team.

How Liverpool could do with a forward hungry to prove his worth and who has previously boasted a fine track record in English football.

Playing devil’s advocate, someone like Fernando Torres perhaps?

Alas, that particular boat may have already sailed.

So too Liverpool’s hopes for a top-four finish, with the league campaign now in danger of drifting should Kenny Dalglish’s side suffer any further setbacks in the next few weeks.

Van Persie now has 25 Premier League goals. Liverpool, taking away four own goals, have 26.

The opposition is in fact the third-highest scorer for Dalglish’s men, two behind Luis Suarez and Craig Bellamy.

Of course, it doesn’t help that Liverpool keep missing penalties, Dirk Kuyt’s weekend failure being his second of the season and the team’s sixth, equalling their worst-ever record for a single campaign.

But luck, as Dalglish lamented, has nothing to do with it. So many misses, along with 21 efforts against the woodwork, suggest Liverpool need more shooting practice or a new striker.

The truth is they probably need both. But whether Fenway Sports Group will readily hand over another £20million or so for a forward remains to be seen.

Another indication of just how desperately short of goals we have been this season. We simply must sign a finisher in the Summer window, we must.

Of course we wouldn't be in this position.

If we had a striker that can score more than six goals in three quarters of a season, then we'd be much better off. But Carroll is crap and Suarez misses way too many chances.

We wasted the chance to sign someone in January and we cannot waste it again in the Summer.

Well if the January window was going to be anything like the last one better we didn't dip in.  We really need one quality quality finisher in summer.  Hopefully if everything goes well we will only be in competition with Spurs and Arsenal.  We can definitely compete with them financially.  Hope the scum don't go out for a striker they have plenty and so do their neighbours.   I hope somehow Suarez will convince Cavani.

Suarez has been prolific himself throughout his career aside from for us. I really cannot work out why, because he has had the chances.
