Will Adam Morgan be part of the Liverpool first team set up next season?

Should Brendan Rodgers integrate the striker into the Liverpool squad for 2012-13?

Liverpool have had a number of talented young players come through their academy through the years, but the transition to the first team has often been tough.

Anthony Le Tallec and Dani Pacheco were two hotly tipped foreigners who flattered to deceive, although in Pacheco's case he may still have an opportunity to re-energise his career.

One teenager who will be hoping next season brings his big breakthrough, is striker Adam Morgan.

Morgan has had an enviable strike rate for the under-18s, and has been compared to a young Robbie Fowler. At Liverpool being measured against the man supporters nicknamed 'God' is a real accolade and big tag to live up to.

However that is a tag Morgan has earned, and now 18, he is at the stage of his development where he needs to be tested beyond youth and reserve team football.

Brendan Rodgers has many decisions to make ahead of next season, and whether to include Morgan or loan him out is one of them.

The striker had another excellent season in the youth team, bagging seven in eight games during a prolific spell in March, and has been capped by England's under-19 side.

It is worth remembering that Michael Owen made his Liverpool debut at 17, with excellent results, and while the now burnt out striker must be recalled with a cautionary note - there is no reason why Morgan could not have a similarly forceful impact in first team football.

Before deciding whether or not to include him next season, the obstacles in his path must be considered.

Liverpool's striking options currently include Luis Suarez, Craig Bellamy, and the divisive Andy Carroll. On the face of it there is no reason not to include Morgan in the squad as the fourth man, especially seeing as Bellamy has been played out wide rather than up top upon his Anfield return, although Rodgers may see things differently to Dalglish.

This too has much to do with Liverpool's lack of options in the wide areas, with Kuyt often deployed out wide during his Liverpool career.

With Liverpool linked with strikers Burak Yilmaz and Daniel Sturridge, it certainly sounds as if the club are considering adding an extra goalscorer to their ranks, a wise move considering they scored just 47 league goals last season, but an approach which may hinder Morgan's development next season.

Liverpool need instant improvement in that area, and it would certainly be wise to boost the squad with the addition of a proven goalscorer, rather than rely on young gun Morgan, but whether Yilmaz or Sturridge are the right men is another issue.

Adam Morgan will hope for opportunities next year in either case, he needs to continue on the upwards curve he is on, rather than stand still, and it may be his chances come in the League Cup.

But would he be better served going on loan in search of regular football? If he can be of more use to another Premier League club, than for the sake of his development, it may be the best decision for Liverpool to take, rather than have him kick his heels on the bench.

Options include keeping him for the first six months of the season, loaning him out in January if he has not had any chances, but what Morgan will have to do, is seize any opportunities he is given, starting with pre-season.

Morgan has scored well for the youth and reserve sides. So if Rodgers fancies giving him a go, let's hope he steps up.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him make the step up. He knows how to finish that's for sure, and that's a skill he can take with him on any level. It's not like the goals get smaller at senior level. ;D

Of course, the real test would be creating the chances for himself.
