Following the renewed hope offered by the promising victory over Spurs last week, Liverpool were brought back down to earth with a disappointing 0-0 draw with Wolves.
The Reds made two changes from the team that had been so impressive six days earlier, with Maxi Rodriguez replacing Phillip Degen and captain Steven Gerrard returning in place of Alberto Aquilani in midfield.
Liverpool had brief spells where they looked like they may get a grip on the game, but for the most part looked as devoid of ideas as their opponents - who had clearly come in search of a point.
In fact it was the home side that looked most likely to score, although a draw in fairness was probably the correct result.
Dirk Kuyt and Jamie Carragher - both standout performers in the last game - failed to impress, as did Gerrard, who looked off the pace following his recent layoff.
There were few positives to be taken from this game, but one was the generally good performance of the defence - another clean sheet means the Reds have now only conceded once in the past 5 Premier League games.
Another plus was the display from David Ngog, who was introduced in the final 20 minutes. The French youngster added a zip to Liverpool's play that had been lacking up until then.
It didn't prove to be enough though, and the final whistle confirmed another two points dropped. The result sees the Reds move up to 5th place in the league, but it is doubtful many fans will be celebrating this result.
