Klopp ‘Would Like To Attract’ Midfielder – Reports

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly interested bolstering his midfield with the signing of Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara this summer.

There has been a lot of talk about the playmaker moving on to new pastures this summer, and over the past week or so Anfield has increasingly been mentioned as a possible destination. Now we have the first reports of interest from the club’s end, with France Football reporting that Klopp would ‘like to attract’ the player.

The 29-year-old has made a name for himself in the Bundesliga since signing from Barcelona in 2013, although he has also suffered a number of setbacks in the form of injuries.

There is also the size of the fee and the player’s age to consider. Whilst Klopp has shown himself willing to sign older players from time to time he doesn’t tend to throw big money at such signings – and even though Thiago is in the final year of his contract Bayern are still expected to ask for a fairly hefty fee.

One box that the midfielder definitely does tick though is he’s a player that contributes goals whilst also being solid defensively. He has contributed 31 goals and 37 assists in 230 appearances for Bayern – no mean feat for a player that has also built a reputation as being tough to get past.

Reaction to the potential transfer from fans has been mixed:

Overall this transfer is most likely not to happen for a range of reasons – mainly the number of midfield options already available and the financial impact of the Covid crisis. For me though Thiago could definitely add something to our midfield, and should Bayern be willing to get sensible about the price I wouldn’t be put off by his age so much.
