Matchday five of the Champions League is done and while some teams have made it into the last 16 some will have to wait a little longer and hope that luck is on their side. The Reds fate in the Champions League this season depends on their last game of the season against Napoli at Anfield in a death or glory tie. The Reds made their path even harder when they were outclassed by PSG in Paris after they were shocked by Red Star Belgrade in Serbia. PSG ran over the Reds in a match where Neymar proved again that he is a force to reckon with a great display even though Jurgen Klopp lamented the Brazilians antics.

‘PSG made us look like butchers’

Klopp accused Paris Saint-Germain and Neymar of making Liverpool “look like butchers” as they lost 3 games in the group stages for the first time.

Klopp admitted that the French Champions deserved the victory in their defeat in which goals from Juan Bernat and Neymar scored before James Milner pulled one back before halftime. The constant injuries to PSG players made Klopp angry and the constant bickering from Tuchel were a mere diversion tactics from a loss that could prove costly.

“I know that now the main headline will be ‘Klopp said’ but the number of interruptions in that game was just not cool,” Klopp lamented. “Two times in a row we won the fair play award in England and tonight we looked like butchers after the yellow cards we had. It was clever of PSG, especially Neymar, but a lot of other players went down like it was really something serious and we were not calm anymore.”

“we were aggressive, and unfortunately negative aggression doesn’t help in football, we got rather frustrated and angry. But we have to deal with it, that’s our job. If the ref lets that happen then we have to deal with it.”

Lackluster Away Results

The Reds have lost all their away Champions League games this season against Napoli, Red Star Belgrade and PSG. However, despite their poor away form, the Reds still have a chance of progressing because of the turns that this group has taken.

What they must do

In order to qualify the Reds have to do it the hard way by beating Napoli 1-0 or by a two goal margin on December 11 in order to avoid elimination from this year’s campaign having reached the Finals last season.

Napoli should be wary of Liverpool’s power at Anfield which is considered to be the hunting ground. Anfield has seen remarkable European nights and this may just be on in their long list.

This situation is the same as the one they found themselves in the Olympiakos in 2004/05. They rose up and Steven Gerrard scored an astonishing late goal and as you know well, the rest is history. Liverpool marched on and lifted the UCL in that season.
