Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was downbeat after watching his side lose to Red Star Belgrade.
The Serbian champions were well worth their surprise 2-0 victory that blew open the group.
And Klopp was clearly not his usual self after his side put in one of the most disappointing performances of his reign.
“You could see that a few things are not going too well.” he told BT Sport.
“But we had chances. Danny had a chance I think he usually scores with.
“We had our moments in the box. They defend on the line.
“They had too many set pieces, that’s true. One of them they scored.
“They scored the second one and then of course the atmosphere was completely different.
“You could feel it. They were on their bikes. We had to deal with the situation.” he added.
Klopp made two changes at the break by bringing on Roberto Firmino and Joe Gomez for Daniel Sturridge and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
But it made little difference to the outcome as the second-half was a frustrating period for the Reds.
“Half-time we tried to change a few things. Then the second half was really dominant.” he continued.
“But we didn’t score. We had the situations, but scrappy balls. Mo’s chance was big.
“A lot of balls that don’t even count as a shot on target because we missed the target.
“It’s hypothetical, but if we score with one of them the game can change. But we didn’t.
“They were completely comfortable, were fighting really hard and deserved the three points.”
“It’s not what we wanted.” he added.
