Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has accepted that his side were second best against Red Star Belgrade.

The Serbian champions ran out comfortable 2-0 victors in the Champions League group stage clash to throw the group wide open and bring themselves into contention for unlikely progression to the knockout phases.

And the German coach was frank in his admission that his side were not good enough as they blew the opportunity to seize control of their destiny in Europe.

“We were not surprised by Red Star’s tactics.” he said.

“In Liverpool we controlled the game, tonight we didn’t.

“We made life a bit too easy tonight, that’s the problem.

“They deserved it for the passion they showed.

“We have to admit – congratulations Red Star, it was well deserved.

“They have the three points, we have nothing.” he finished.

Liverpool face Fulham on Sunday as the squad return to Premier League action.
