Liverpool have opened discussions over a new contract for Joe Gomez.
That’s according to a report by the Echo, in which they claim that the defender is being rewarded for his impressive form over the last eighteen months.
Gomez, who arrived from Charlton Athletic back in 2015, has been a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s side since the beginning of last season.
He spent much of the 2017/18 campaign rotating at right-back with fellow youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold – but has now started playing his preferred position at centre-half.
And that has seen his boss recognise that he deserves recognition for his excellent progress – despite only putting pen to paper on a new deal less than two years ago.
Gomez has also made a breakthrough at international level and has been a regular in the England squad of late – and would likely have been at the World Cup if it weren’t for injury.
That also ruled him out of contention for the Champions League final against Real Madrid last season.
