Liverpool winger Sadio Mane has had surgery on his broken thumb.
The former Southampton man broke the thumb on his left hand during Senegal’s 3-0 win over Sudan at the weekend.
He returned to Merseyside for assessment and it was decided that he needed to have it operated on as soon as possible, so the procedure was booked in for Wednesday.
“Liverpool Football Club can confirm Sadio Mane today underwent a procedure on a hand injury sustained while on international duty with Senegal.” a statement on Liverpoolfc.com reads.
“The surgery, conducted at a north-west hospital and supervised by club medics, was successful.
“Mane’s recovery will be monitored over the next couple of days ahead of the Reds’ return to action at Huddersfield Town on Saturday.” it ends.
It is hoped that he will be able to take part in Saturday’s Premier League trip to take on Huddersfield Town as domestic football returns following the international break.
