Former Liverpool vice-captain Jamie Carragher has urged Jurgen Klopp to replace Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazil international left Anfield to join Barcelona in a deal worth a reported £145m back in January, but the club have not brought in a similar type player since he moved.
And Carragher believes that the failed move to bring Lyon skipper Nabil Fekir to the club in the Summer proves that Klopp wants to get another playmaker into his squad.
“I just look at that midfield and I think we’re missing that Coutinho type of player. Obviously, we went in for Fekir, so we’re obviously looking for someone like that.” he told This Is Anfield.
“We’re trying to compete with City, and I look and they’ve got De Bruyne and Silva in there. I don’t think we’ve got that sort of player.
“We’ve got different types of players and we don’t play the same as them. But, now and again at Anfield, you’re going to need someone to open up teams and do something a little bit clever.
“That’s my only worry with this squad, but besides that, I think this could be Liverpool’s greatest squad for the last thirty years.” he added.
Many Liverpool supporters will agree that the team is missing someone to link the midfield and attack together, but Klopp has shown that he is ready to wait to get the right player signed.
