Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is interested in signing Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne.
The England international has only made one appearance so far during the current campaign following his return from injury late on last season and could opt to make a move away from the club.
He has struggled to get back into the side after the emergence of teenage right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and that has seen him restricted to just one outing.
Clyne started the 2-1 defeat against Chelsea in the League Cup last month and has not been seen since, with his only appearance on a Premier League teamsheet coming on the opening weekend when he was an unused substitute against West Ham United.
The former Crystal Palace and Southampton defender appears to be out of favour with manager Jurgen Klopp and it could end up being mutually beneficial if he is sold.
Ex-Reds boss Benitez has identified right-back as a position he needs to strengthen, accoriding to reports, and has added Clyne to his shortlist of potential targets.
The Spaniard could launch a bid in January, when the winter transfer window opens, to try and prise the twenty-seven year old away from Anfield.
Klopp also has former Charlton Athletic defender Joe Gomez available as an option at right-back and opted to use the England man against rivals Manchester City on Sunday rather than call on Clyne.
