Liverpool will rival Manchester United in the race to sign Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal in January.
That is the claim being made in a report by the Evening Standard, in which they state that the two Premier League powerhouses are keen on snapping up the midfielder.
The Wales international looks set to move on from The Emirates after talks over a contract extension for the deal which expires next Summer broke down last month.
Ramsey will be able to sign a precontract deal with an overseas club in the new year and has attracted interest from Italy with Inter Milan, Juventus and AC Milan all keen on luring him to Serie A.
But the former Cardiff City man is said to prefer the idea of remaining in England with his family settled in London and will attract plenty of interest given his contract situation.
Chelsea are also said to be closely monitoring his situation with a view to making a free transfer move for him next Summer – but they could reasses in January should Liverpool and United make bids.
Arsenal chiefs are reported to be expecting cash bids when the winter transfer window opens as rivals look to try and tempt them in to selling Ramsey six months early in order to recoup a fee for him.
He will have seen the progress made by former Gunners team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, before his injury, since his move to Anfield and that may tempt him into choosing Liverpool.
