Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has praised the club for signing Xherdan Shaqiri this Summer.
The Swiss international was available at a knockdown price after Stoke City were relegated last season and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp beat the competition to bring him to Anfield.
And Carragher, who is now working as a television pundit, explained that he thought the deal made absolute sense for the club to go ahead with.
“I think it’s a brilliant buy for Liverpool.” he told Sky Sports.
“He’s been around a long time at big clubs and has great experience.” he added.
When asked if he thought the twenty-six year old was capable of being more than a backup player and whether the former Inter and Bayern man could make an impact, Carragher was sure.
“You look at the price tag, his age as well, he will. He made an impact at Leicester when he came on.” he responded.
“If Salah comes off, is he ever going to replace him?
“I don’t think he will replace him as a starter but to bring him off and bring him on.
“He did make a difference when he came on.
“He plays more centrally for Switzerland, so maybe that’s something going forward for Liverpool also.
“He’ll want to put himself in the limelight because of the huge games coming up for Liverpool in the next month and he will want to be a part of it.” he finished.
Shaqiri was said that he is hopeful of getting more game time in the coming weeks as the fixtures pile up and plenty of fans would like to see more of him.
