Match ratings: Leicester City 1-2 Liverpool

Here are our player ratings for the team after the 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday lunchtime:

Alisson Becker – Made a handy save from Gray, but the error for their goal was as unnecessary as it was calamitous. 5️⃣

Trent Alexander-Arnold – A touch sloppy on the call at times. Some useful attacking play. Avoided a booking for the first time this season. 6️⃣

Joe Gomez – Keeps on performing. Won his duel with Gray and got Van Dijk out of trouble at one point. Is really taking his chance in the centre. 9️⃣

Virgil Van Dijk – One of his poorest games since he arrived. Passing was poor too often. Looked quite lethargic and complacent. Height won a lot of aerial battles though. 6️⃣

Andrew Robertson – Key to the opening goal. Showed determination and wouldn’t let Rolando stop him. Tailed off as the game went on. 7️⃣

Georginio Wijnaldum – Looked a different player to the one who started the season so well. Wanted too much time on the ball. Some sloppy passes too. 5️⃣

Jordan Henderson – His return to the side upset the balance of midfield. Would have made more sense for him to replace Wijnaldum rather than Keita, in retrospect. Two poor passes to Gomez and Van Dijk played the defenders into trouble just before Leicester scored. Lack of fitness told as well. 5️⃣

James Milner – Our best midfielder, which admittedly isn’t saying much. Struggled to link midfield and attack and gave away a needless late free kick. 6️⃣

Mohamed Salah – Poor game. Wasted a brilliant early chance to open the scoring and missed some chances to play team-mates in. Slow start to the season. 5️⃣

Sadio Mane – Took his goal well after latching on to the loose ball in their box. Kept working hard but lacked the support from his attacking colleagues. 7️⃣

Roberto Firmino – The goal saved his game. Showed some flashes here and there, but was generally off the pace and wanted too long in possession. Has been far from his best so far this season. 6️⃣

Shaqiri – Added some much needed energy and drive. Needs more game time to make a bigger impact. 7️⃣

Keita – Added a bit more balance to the midfield and tracked back well at times. 6️⃣

Matip – Came on very late to add height as Leicester went long. *️⃣
